Coastal Cottages of Pembrokeshire

Negative experience: We have stayed at Fferm Ty Uchaf before but in the intervening years it’s gone downhill ! The cottage was dirty and covered with cobwebs and thick dust. I actually wrote “ clean me” on one of the bedside tables it was so thick The sofa had plywood boards under the cushions to stop it sagging! Kitchen utensils were dirty. I wouldn’t recommend this property . The location is outstanding but that’s about it. Reading the guest book it was obvious we weren’t the only people who had issues. We didn’t want to be disturbed by cleaners coming in and the sofa couldn’t be replaced within the time frame so we didn’t contact Coastal Cottages but by reading several reviews it’s obvious they have a problem with cleanliness. We would never book with this company again and I strongly urge anyone contemplating using them to look elsewhere

Fantastic experience: Good selection of properties which look to be of good quality. It's the first time I have used this company but the booking process was quick and easy to use once I'd chosen a property. The only problem I had was I couldn't get properties that I had saved to favourites to stay in the favourites box. They just kept disappearing! Not sure why. It made the selection process a lot longer as I had to write the property name/number down rather than have them in one place. I registered straight away before I started looking specifically to be able to use the 'add to favourites' option.

Negative experience: First the good points: the views from the house in St Dogmaels are stunning and the location is good. Now for the 'but' : parking space is extremely tight unless you have a motorbike; furnishings are very tired, bordering on scruffy; broken dining chair at the table; kitchen is poorly equipped. The photos on the website were very flattering to say the least and at eye watering peak season prices it's fair to say I feel I've been well and truly conned. Buyer beware indeed!

Negative experience: Treetops, Lydstep Firstly the positives! We've been customers of this company for many years, with mostly very positive experiences. But now becoming increasingly nervous of booking, as their website property reviews just seem to pick the best bits from customer comments left in the Guest Books, or have no reviews at all. This property is in a great location and has many plus points, but if you're paying over £2,000 in peak season, you really don't want to turn up and feel disappointed. Along with others we have raised issues regarding the poor state of the garden, lack of outdoor seating and general maintenance, dog poo in the garden from neighbours dogs, some cleaning issues eg ceiling vents in kitchen which were thick with dust and cobwebs, and at least one badly stained mattress. We received a reply from Coastal Cottages to say these issues would be passed on to the property manager and owner to be addressed. We didn't want our week disrupted with cleaning or maintenance staff turning up, especially as some issues are not quick fixes, so advised CC of our concerns before we left. The gardeners arrived on a routine visit just to mow the lawn but all the weeds on the patio areas were left untouched.

Negative experience: DO NOT STAY OR USE COASTAL COTTAGES PEMBROKESHIRE! We entered the property just after 4pm on the check in day, we looked around the property and noticed the very poor condition it had been left in. The property overall was left in an unsatisfactory condition with a number of spiders, webs, hair, dust, stains and dirt etc. Alongside this, it was a struggle to shut and open the front door as the top hinge is loose. We contacted them soon after entering the property regarding the condition and left it over an hour before chasing as we had not brought our belongings in, however they were not able to locate their own cleaner/caretaker so we had to clean the property ourselves. They organised for a door specialist to visit the property to repair the front door which took place on the Monday, over two days after we had checked in so we had to struggle opening and shutting the door during this time. There was a hot tub located on the property for guests to use however after witnessing the cleanliness and overall condition of the house we decided not to risk our health! As we are aware hot tubs can be a breeding ground for bacteria etc. Due to the condition of the property we decided to leave the day before check out as it ruined our yearly holiday away. We were offered a small amount of compensation which did not cover 1 night stay. We have dealt with and used Coastal Cottages for over 20 years and it is safe to say the overall standard has dramatically deteriorated to one which is not acceptable! Due to this experience, we have decided we shall not be using their services and instead we will use the more reliable Airbnb which offers clear information for a better rate, cleanliness and overall experience.

Fantastic experience: We stayed last year at Harbour Suite apartment in Harbour Heights in Tenby and despite a few issues we loved the place. Regular contact with the team ensured an agreeable outcome and we planned to book again for this year This was duly done and we booked to stay in June (22 to 29 June) Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances we had to do a late cancellation. The team came through trumps with a full refund less admin charges. They were extremely accommodating despite my outbursts due to my circumstances and physical pain. I will be booking again for next year making sure I take full insurance this time A huge thank you for bearing with me . I am truly grateful ❤️❤️❤️

Positive experience: Booking online was no problem, however I got several reminders about paying balance very nearly straight away, and before it was due. When I did go to pay it did not allow me to and I had to phone, only then was I allowed to pay online. You need to sort this out. Other than that all was well.

Main bedroom is a good size .. only thing to note is the single bed with a second mattress bed under , one would have to somehow move a small set of drawers out of room to put other single bed up ... maybe a small double would be better on there ? Otherwise great access and lovely stay

They are based in Pembrokeshire and they clearly have lots of local knowledge. Highly recommended!

We had been looking for a dog friendly cottage in Pembrokeshire for a while now and getting overwhelmed by some sites and their lack of search parameters meaning lots of trawling through write ups. Come on...its just the start of the holiday property rental process and the review should be on the whole process. This is an easy way to amass 5 star reviews before things go wrong later in the process.

Negative experience: We rented property 20941 Coastal View in Porthgain. from 18th to 25th June 2022 and were very disappointed with the facilities. The first thing that greeted us was a large bucket and mop, left just behind the Front Door. The advertisement for the property said there is a DVD Player, so we took a number of DVD’s with us, but there was no DVD Player. We informed Coastal of this early on in the week, in case it was thought that we had taken it. There were none of the facilities that one would normally expect to be in a rental property. There were no books, games, maps, information on places of local interest. There were no instructions for the shower (although there were some for a different shower), washing machine, cooker. There was no freezer, or freezer compartment in the fridge. A log fire was advertised on the site, but, if we had wanted a fire, there were 2 small logs at the bottom of a wicker basket. All of the windows were extremely difficult to open and close. The windows in the twin bedroom, bathroom and kitchen could not be opened. The floor tiles in the kitchen, lounge, and bathroom were very sticky underfoot. The instructions for the water and heating, were handwritten on a small piece of paper stuck to the wall and had been added to, because the original instructions were not clear. There was no hair drier, The instructions for the TV were handwritten on a piece of card on the notice board, in the kitchen, and were not accurate. There are quite steep steps up to the front door, but the hand rail does not extend to the bottom 6 steps. This makes it difficult going up the steps with cases. There was no guest book for comments, we didn’t wonder why. After all the negative points that we found, there was not one negative comment on the Customer Reviews on the Coastal website. The customer reviews did not carry any names or dates. We wonder why? We have the impression that no one from Coastal had visited this property, to check that it is adequate for rental. We doubt that this review will appear on the Coastal Website for this property Sincerely, Richard and Brenda

Positive experience: Holiday cottage letting agency and estate agents with some added services. Only local agency in Pembs with professional but friendly service. Wide range of cottages available. Parking not always easy but most of business is done online or by phone.

Fantastic experience: We stayed in the ploughman's cottage near Dale and it was really great. It is well appointed with everything you need for a family holiday. We enjoyed it so much we have already booked it again for July!

Negative experience: The cottage we hired was ideally placed and pleasantly set out. unfortunately it was not clean. certainly nowhere near clean enough to meet the Covid requirements in our view. There was thick dust and cobwebs in certain areas (including human hair hanging from the bedside lamp), as well as old food under the toaster and mold along the bath and bathroom window, which indicated that items had not been moved, thus it hadnt been cleaned thoroughly for a long time. We raised the issue, providing photographs to Coastal Cottages. To be fair, we were offered a cleaner to come round, but we confirmed we didnt want someone coming into the cottage whilst we were there due to Covid. - Coastal cottages told us the lack of cleaning was due to human error!!!!!!! which is a ridiculous statement to make. It is a great shame that what was a pleasant holiday was impacted in the first place by a lack of cleanliness and secondly by Coastal Cottages' approach to the complaint. i would hope and am quite sure the property has been thoroughly cleaned now and therefore it will be a lovely place to stay.

Negative experience: We stayed at Brynawelon in Poppit Sands in Sept 2020. The cottage is in a great location close to the Pembrokeshire coast path, with superb views of the beach. But we were very disappointed by how dirty it was at check in and wondered if any Covid protocols had been followed. Hairs in shower, brown stains, toothpaste on mirror, dirty kitchen and more. Initial response from Coastal Cottages was poor - disinterested and somewhat robotic - although they offered to have the cottage recleaned. Overall however, we don’t feel confident booking with them again.

Negative experience: Very poor service, After a terrible stay at one of their cottages I am still waiting for a response. Anchor Cottage at Laugharne which it appears since my complaint is no longer available to book....... Be careful, not the 4* we expected or paid for.

Negative experience: We stayed at 2 St. Florence Cottages, Ivy Tower Village and werr so disappointed with the property. Great location and a lovely village but cottage desperately needs updating. No Internet these days is rare and no central heating is most unusual for year round accommodation. The photos we took show the cottage to be dirty, mould around windows, cobwebs galore, really skanky bathroom and probably the most uncomfortable double bed I've ever slept in. It reminded me of what we accepted as 'okay in the late 80's but these days, for £450 we expected much better.

Negative experience: Just spent a week at Swallows Rest, Croesgoch in Pembrokeshire. The house was filthy on arrival and was definitely not Covid safe, nor 5 star. Despite the fact a cleaner was then dispatched to the property, it doesn't excuse the fact that this is entirely unacceptable, particularly in the current pandemic. I wouldn't feel comfortable booking a property through this company again.

Fantastic experience: A huge thank you to Coastal Cottages for changing my booking to 2021. I am so disappointed not to be visiting this year as I have been holidaying in Pembrokeshire every year since 1967, booking through Coastal Cottages since the company was set up a long time ago. I was so upset to read the reviews by some berating Coastal Cottages for advertising holidays. It is very clear on the website when bookings will run from and this has changed as time went on. Without the income from tourists Wales would have to have even more support from government. I took a virtual holiday at the beginning of May, supporting the local shops as I would when I visited. All those I contacted showed the true generosity of spirit of Pembrokeshire folk.
