The Isles of Scilly Steamship Co offers an enchanting travel experience to the stunning Isles of Scilly, frequently noted for the beautiful scenery and wildlife sightings, including dolphins and numerous bird species. - A clean and comfortable ferry, with plenty of seating and a delightful café serving a range of snacks.
- A well-organized sailing process with efficient baggage handling.
- Great views and a calming atmosphere during the voyage.
However, some areas require attention:

The Isles of Scilly Steamship Co: Reviews
Positive experience: It's a nice ride IF the open sea is calm, plenty of dolphins and birds to sea along the way. But I would NOT recommend the day trip to scilly, purely because there is such a small window between arrival and departure check in times (3hr window). Book a few days stay on the island instead and take your time... or fly on the day trip instead. With that said, if you think it more as a day long 'sea safari' trip. with a 3hr break in the middle, it's a bargain!
Positive experience: I love going to the Semi Tropical Scilly Isles. Whether by ferry or flying I just love going there. Sadly I have to say the cleanliness of the Scillonian III has really deteriorated. Dog hairs and all sorts of other debris did not help my asthma on the early morning crossin over there the last time by the time we got to St Marys I was wheezing like a contestant on Supermarket Sweep
Negative experience: U need to think about the local people who can't park there cars u would not like it if I bloody block your car park . Which I will if this carry on asholes
Fantastic experience: Spotlessly clean ferry. Nice calm crossing with lots of places to sit inside and put. Good cafe with tidy coffee, nice selection of snacks and a lovely lady serving. Very dog friendly.
Fantastic experience: Always very helpful and friendly you can get all your details about sailings and insurance to the isles of scilly
Positive experience: Had a great day to travel with calm seas and gorgeous blue sky. Very friendly crew and wonderful voyage across. Only observation is we would have liked to sample Cornish drinks. Cornwall has amazing breweries and vineyards and yet there was no Cornish drinks to be seen. Such a shame.
Negative experience: We have been coming to the islands for many years. However, the travel experience has become horrendous in the last few years. Disembarking the Scillonian in Penzance is unbelievably frustrating. The staff treat the passengers like cattle. A young man was close to missing his train, and despite being able to see his bag the staff refused to pass it to him until every single bag had been unloaded from the boat. They shouted and got angry at him and refused to unload any more bags until he moved away, this is despite all the heavy machinery being at the other end of the quay. There was no risk to him or anyone else. All the people on the quay were urging the staff to pass it to him and they refused. It was aggressive jobsworth behaviour and utterly unpleasant to witness. We later saw the man at the station trying to work out how to get back to London from Penzance having missed the last train of the day. These islands are utterly reliant on summer tourism. People are willing to travel huge distances to come to experience the magic of the islands. The inhuman behaviour of staff in this service will slowly and surely undermine the reasons the majority of people come and it will be left with nothing but people coming in via helicopter to timeshare houses.
Positive experience: Day trip. The boats gets you there at reasonable price BUT. It's 3&1/2 hours of your life each way (including boarding etc) and just 3hrs there (again check in & boarding time) . If you are fit, great. Otherwise you really need to plan and pre-book any excursions or the use of golf buggies etc. The boat is due to be replaced in 2026 and it needs it too. Generally old worn out uncomfortable seating, I'll fly next time, may cost a lot more but saves you over 6 hours of your day. Or Dig deep and go for a week...
Positive experience: Can get quite rocky on the boat so take sea sickness tablets....even on a calm sea in summer.
Fantastic experience: Went on this cruise last year and must say excellent and looking forward to the trip again this year....
Fantastic experience: The most peaceful place I've ever seen, amazing.
Fantastic experience: Great journey. Lovely staff. I flew on skybus from St. Mary's to Lands End. Thank you
Fantastic experience: Very helpful staff and beautiful scenery
Positive experience: Flying small planes and running a flat bottomed boat across the route that they do is never going to be easy, and the staff clearly do their best, but the company itself often misjudge their communication, and it leads to issues on the (rather frequent) days where sailing/flying/both is not possible. Despite protestations to the contrary, it's not the company but the kit that causes this, they really need to be better at explaining what exactly is causing the issue at the time and they would be much more warmly received
Fantastic experience: Get all advice here. and book flights.travel and transport to and from the scilly islands
Positive experience: The sailing from Penzance to St. Mary’s went very well and all seemed well organized. My bags were duly delivered to my St. Mary’s accommodation for a small fee. The day before my scheduled return to Penzance, the ferry broke down, and I spent an extra three nights stranded on the Isles of Scilly. Yes, it’s a nice place to stay, but unfortunately, during the days of cancelled sailings, communication from the company to its passengers was dismal. Entering Day 3 (Saturday), I had yet to be contacted. Obviously, more staff was needed! Communication improved on Day 3, with updates promised every two hours. Office staff on St. Mary’s dealt well with the queues of people. Passengers were boarded efficiently on the first sailing Sunday evening. The company, I’m sure, has learned from this unprecedented occurrence, learned how important communication is, and they dealt promptly with reimbursement claims, although not covering full expenses.
Negative experience: Unfortunately it the only company that get people to and from the Isle with out dated planes boats and It over priced. The front line staff of the company help as best as they can but are let down by board members feeling there pockets with the profits
Fantastic experience: Very nice one.
Positive experience: Went to St Mary's for the day a pleasant little town and learn too slow down to the local pace
Fantastic experience: Easy booking and the Scillonian III was great
Positive experience: Friendly staff
Fantastic experience: Massive thank you to Jackie who went above and beyond to let him know that his bag had not been collected. Great service!
Fantastic experience: Office itself is very helpful but the south pier Scillonian boarding process is a disorganized mess
Positive experience: Can't say much was sick all the way across.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic service for a family member with limited mobility, thoroughly recommended
Positive experience: Very helpful and friendly
Fantastic experience: I arrived exactly where I expected
Negative experience: The crossing was fine but the whole thing was spoiled for me by the chaotic, primitive embarkation and disembarkation.
Fantastic experience: Helpful staff and good services.
Fantastic experience: Fly out & get the boat back is all I can say, worth the extra time on the islands, & it doesn't really cost that much more to be fair
Positive experience: Walked past
Fantastic experience: Staff are exceptional
Fantastic experience: Good
Fantastic experience: Easy to book and efficient service.
Fantastic experience: Sail to the Isles of Scilly via Scillonian III or fly via Skybus
Fantastic experience: Very helpful
Positive experience: Good for freight shipping to the Scillies, which is just as well, with them being the monopoly carrier.
Positive experience: No problems with ferry. Flights cancel al the time
Positive experience: Good, prompt service
Fantastic experience: Really helpful and friendly staff. They were able to deal with my cancellation and rebook without any fuss or problems. Only a small space to park outside, so I would advise to park in a nearby car park.
Fantastic experience: Very helpful staff. Always a pleasure to use this office
Fantastic experience: They do have a website as short on parking
Fantastic experience: Very friendly
Fantastic experience: Wow ! 10 stars if it were possible. I am disabled and was travelling to the IOS from Land's End with a "first-time flyer" and elderly dog. To be honest, I was dreading it. But .... from check-in to the cafeteria to the cabin crew (and even the transfer taxi) they could not have been more helpful, friendly, courteous, patient and caring. I even had a phone call the day after I returned home to ask if there was anything more they could do to ease our journey if I was going to fly with my dog again. In this day and age customer service with any company is very hit and miss - they could all look to Skybus for an example of how to do it right. Highly recommended - thank you Skybus
Positive experience: For a day trip to the Isles of Scilly, it's a bit expensive and you have very little time on the islands, especially on Saturdays (only about a good hour). When booking online, be careful not to book just a one-way trip if you need to come back as well. The islands are a dream.
Fantastic experience: After being transferred from Lands End Airport to Exeter Airport I managed to leave my mobile phone on the coach. Thanks to some swift assistance from Jonathan Verran and the Lands End team my phone has been safely and securely returned. many thanks, yours gratefully, Ian King
Positive experience: Based near the dock for the ferry to St Marys
Fantastic experience: If you're looking for a way to get to the Isles of Scilly, this is the only way to travel.
