Fantastic experience: We had a great holiday walking the Cleveland Way early in August. We went for the challenging 10 night / 9 day version and I have to admit that we did make one or two alterations to the route. Everything was very well organised by Mickledore Travel, who were very quick to respond to requests for clarification and who provided ample documentation. The accommodation was good, especially considering that in some villages the choice was somewhat limited, with the b and bs in Robin Hood’s Bay and Scarborough being real stand-outs. We were pretty fortunate with the weather, though we did encounter some strong winds and (only once) torrential rain. The good people of Yorkshire were very welcoming and often offered to point out the correct direction before we had asked them. We have some great memories and some funny stories to tell. We hope to be able to do another holiday with Mickledore Travel in the very near future.

Fantastic experience: This June we completed our fifth Mickledore Walking Holiday on the Northumberland Coast Path, Cresswell to Berwick-on-Tweed, in 6 days. We were blessed with beautiful weather, coastal views, and visits to castle sites heaped in historical significance. We found that the local communities we visited were especially helpful and welcoming. We trust Mickledore to offer a wide array of well organized walking holidays in the UK. And, we are already planning our next one!

Fantastic experience: We just completed our second booking with Mickledore in June 2024 by having walked back-to-back both the Cotswold and South Downs Ways (our 1st was Hadrian’s wall in 2022). Mickledore’s service and ease of booking means that we will definitely book another walking holiday with them. Conversations by email were very responsive. All necessary materials needed for the walks were provided in ample time prior to departure from the USA. All accommodations, taxi transfers, and luggage transport were of superior service. Recommendations for dining, plus Mickledore’s preliminary booking for evening meals at isolated locations, was great. We plan to book with them again; you should, too!

Positive experience: We have recently returned from completing the Cotswold Way with Mickledore. We had a wonderful holiday enjoying the delightful scenery, some stunning woodland, field after field of wildflower meadow, and some stunning villages and small towns. The 102 mile route is in places quite challenging, mainly due to the steep hills, but is well worth the effort. Everything went smoothly with our holiday. Bookings, luggage transfer, and accommodation all went seamlessly. Most of the accommodation was excellent. One room was a bit too small when suitcases and rucksacks were stored (on the floor!) and one landlady could have been a bit more welcoming and accommodating, but otherwise we were happy with the accommodation booked. We would certainly recommend Mickledore to others.

Fantastic experience: I have done many walks with Mickledore (West Highland Way, Great Glen Way, SW Coastal Path, Coast to Coast, Cotswolds Round, Thames Path) and I plan to do many more (Northumberland Coast next on the list). All have been seamlessly organised with a high standard of accommodation, reliable luggage transfer and useful trail information. The staff are responsive and knowledgeable. Fantastic experience: Completed our sixth Mickledore walking holiday in May, along the Great Glen Way in Scotland (Fort William to Inverness). The organisation and information from Mickledore was first class as usual and the accommodation, which was a mix of small hotels and friendly b&bs, was all attractive, clean and geared up for walkers. The route itself is well signposted and heads along canal towpaths, lochside paths, plenty of pine forest and a few stunning sections on the edge of moorland. Travelling in May, were lucky to be met with dry weather throughout and no midges! Best to book ahead for the popular eating places - they were busy even in May. Overall a very peaceful and enjoyable holiday.

Mickledore made our logistics for the walks easy - all we had to do was walk, sleep and eat and enjoy the atmosphere. Negative experience: DO NOT TRUST THEIR GRADING - do your own intense research on the walks you are looking at BEFORE booking. We ended up on a very challenging part of the South West Coast Path as their site said it was "easy to tackle for most reasonably fit people." It started to become clear this was not true when they sent us the books on the path (after we'd fully paid of course), but we still trusted them, which was a mistake as we ended up battling heat exhaustion multiple times on a difficult trail with no access to water the whole day. If you're new to walking holidays, as we were, better to go with a company that is clearer up front. Contours seems to have more info on ascension, as well as more accurate grading, and we heard from other walkers they like that company. That said, accommodations, luggage transfers, and taxi transfers all went smoothly as booked. So not an incompetent company, however seems to care more about making the sale than ensuring their clients are safe, prepared, and well suited to the holidays they book.

Fantastic experience: If you want to have a tour operator that is prepared to work around your needs, rather than keeping to their advertised programme, then look no further! We are in our 70s, and we asked for shorter days on our Hadrian's Wall holiday. Mickledore Walking Holidays were the only ones prepared to arrange this for us. The accommodation was great, and the behind-the-scenes preparation was perfect. We had a great time.

Fantastic experience: We used another UK Walking Tour company last year when we walked The Cotswold Way. A friend suggested that we use Mickledore for our South Downs Walk this year as they were impressed with the service they received. Making the switch was the right decision for us. Mickledore was easy and efficient to work with from Canada. They provided a comprehensive holiday pack that included a booklet detailing each section of the walk to the inn, distance, telephone numbers, location maps with trails to get to the inn of the night and establishments for evening meals. Their communication is excellent and their varied choices in accommodations is delightful. I especially enjoyed the family run inns/b&b. I also liked using the Mickledore App since all the documentation is on my phone just in case my paper copies got wet or lost. We’ll definitely use them for our future UK Walking trips.

Fantastic experience: I walked Cotswold Way in July-August. As a solo woman walker I felt very safe and well taken care of by Mickledore. Guesthouses were well chosen, directions were clear and my bag followed me with no problem. The views, of course, were stunning regardless a couple of days of rain. Will definitely go on another walking holiday with Mickledore!

Fantastic experience: We had a great adventure walking along Hadrian’s Wall, and Mickledore arranged everything! They arranged great B & Bs, recommended places for dinner, provided detailed maps and book, emergency info, where to find toilets, clothes to pack - everything we needed to feel comfortable taking this adventure. Fantastic experience: My wife and I have now completed three walking holidays with Mickledore, most recently the Fife Coastal Path in May and we still have scheduled the Dingle Way in Ireland this coming September. We are from the United States so it is reassuring to have Mickledore Walking Holidays arranging your luggage transfers and lodging and providing support, if needed, along your walk. They were especially helpful during COVID when we had to postpone a planned walk two consecutive years with the addition that another hiker dropped out of the same walk all without penalty to us. I would highly recommend them. They offer a wide range of walking holidays and we are already planning out the Pembrokeshire Coast Path for the Spring of '24.

Fantastic experience: WALKING THE DINGLE WAY The Dingle Way walk is a must, great walking with fantastic scenery. Walking on lanes, tracks, moorland, beaches, coast paths and “Boreens” We used Kerry airport which was only 20 minutes from the start at Tralee

Fantastic experience: Mickledore is always able to suit holidays to our needs. Mickledore makes it easy to select the number of days we wanted to do a walk in. Also helpful when arranging extra days, where to leave your car and book train transfers. I like the way Mickledore makes you feel you are part of their family. Couldn't wish for anything more. Last experience was the South Downs Way walking holiday. We walked the whole Way in one go (8 sections) and had a lovely time. Not the nicest (walking) way in the UK since quite a lot is bridle way. Still liked it very much and we just had to do it. We had a fun time diverting from the way frequently and found the footpaths on either side of the way more to our liking; we thoroughly enjoyed the last two days of the walk and did not divert from the way there. What we really liked is the hassle free way Mickledore arranged the holiday for us. All that was left was to get to the start, do the walk and return back home. Mickledore was able to book small hotels and B&B's (our preference) along the route. All were excellent but the Nest hotel in Buriton (very rude and condescending managers).

The first time (2019) they arranged lodging, baggage transport, and logistics to hike 5 days along the Thames Path. More recently (2022) they did the same, for a 7-day, self-guided walking tour in the UK. I will happily hope to use their services again in the future.

Fantastic experience: We hiked Hadrian's Wall Path with the help of Mickledore, who flawlessly planned out our customized late season trip including lodgings, walking route, transport where needed and luggage delivery along the way. Spectacular scenery, warm and wonderful people, amazing coastal towns. Definitely one of our favourite long distance walks. Fantastic experience: Walked the boarders abbey's way recently with mickledore, what a lovely holiday, beautiful scenery, mostly great accommodation (and they have listened to feedback and concerns regarding one not so good place), weather was fabulous (thank you mickledore for arranging that.......well you couldn't book good weather when booking the holiday but we were blessed). This is the second time we have used mickledore and would definitely recommend and use again.

Fantastic experience: Trip 3 - July 2024 Self guided 6 night walking trip along the river Thames from Marlow to Richmond-upon-Thames. We enjoyed staying in all of the hotels on the route, our luggage was successfully transferred every day and the Mickledore pre-booked taxis along the route worked efficiently. All of the rooms were well appointed (received a free upgrade in one hotel) and all provided hearty breakfasts to start our days walking. Most of the hotels were centrally located with lots of restaurants nearby. The country house hotel was a little further out but still with easy access to town if you wanted it. As with our previous Mickledore holidays along the earlier sections of the Thames Path (see below) the route was very well sign-posted and followed the river with only a few detours. This section of the Thames Path was less rural but with a number of interesting villages and sights along the way eg. Runnymede and WIndsor/Eton. Booking process was easy and all information provided by Mickledore was received quickly and was comprehensive. Mickledore staff were friendly and helpful throughout. We would also recommend this trip through Mickledore as we have for the earlier two stages we have completed and are already thinking of booking with them again. Trip 2 - July 2023 Self guided 6 day walking trip along the river Thames from Oxford to Marlow. This is the second part of 4 separate Mickledore holidays which cover the whole length of the Thames. We did part 1 from the source of the Thames at Kemble to Oxford last year. Hotels chosen by Mickledore were welcoming, friendly and rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was provided on 3 mornings and were excellent, on the other days we ate in a nearby café or provided our own. We bought picnics in local shops for lunch along the route, but there were places to eat on or near the river most days. In the evening there was a good choice of restaurants near the hotels we stayed in, and we enjoyed some fantastic meals. As in the section we walked last year the route was well sign-posted and easy to follow using the guidebook provided by Mickledore. The route followed the river closely and went through a number of lovely villages, canal locks and at one stage the back gardens of a row of houses ! One day we spent a memorable half hour at the edge of a field watching half a dozen red kite where the parents looked like they were teaching the offspring to hunt. The river was much busier in this section with lots of canal boats, cruisers and rowers using it. Booking process was easy and all information provided by Mickledore was received quickly and was comprehensive. Mickledore staff were friendly and helpful throughout. We would absolutely recommend this trip through Mickledore and are already thinking of booking with them again. Trip 1 - July 2022 Self guided 5 day walking trip along the river Thames from the river source at Kemble to the city of Oxford. Hotels chosen by Mickledore were welcoming, friendly and very comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent everywhere and set us up for a day's walking ! The route was well sign-posted and was easy to follow using the guidebook provided by Mickledore. The route went through different types of farmland and countryside with lots of pretty villages and river locks along the way. It was interesting watching the river grow in size and the resultant changes in wildlife, flowers etc and the way more people were using it eg canoes, narrow boats etc. Booking process was very easy. All information provided by Mickledore was received quickly and was comprehensive. Mickledore staff were friendly and helpful throughout including the out-of-hours helpline who were quick to deal with an issue we had on arriving at one hotel. We would absolutely recommend this trip through Mickledore and are already thinking of booking with them again.

Two years ago we walked Hadrian’s Wall, and this past summer we returned to Scotland to walk the Great Glen Way. Both holidays were FABULOUS! Mickeldore’s online site is expertly written and informative. And, their support staff is very helpful in answering any questions in the decision process of choosing a trip. We found that their accommodations are consistently excellent and their written materials for the trip are just what we needed to make it successful. There are many walking holiday organizations, but to our mind, there is no one we would trust more than Mickeldore! We are already planning our next walking adventure !

Fantastic experience: We walked part of the North Devon Coastal path from Minehead to Westwood Ho! over 9 days. We stayed in some lovely B&B's and Guest Houses and experienced some beautiful scenery along the way. It was very well organised. We were given full details of where we were staying and suggested places to eat 2-3 weeks before the holiday.

Fantastic experience: In May of 2022, a small group of Canadians booked for the first time with Mickledore to do a hike on the Fife Coastal Path in Scotland. Kudos to Mickledore for providing such outstanding and comprehensive service! They totally exceeded all expectations! Our accommodations were charming, the hiking resources high quality, the luggage transfers 100% reliable and the staff with whom we dealt over the height of the pandemic, and many changes later to our itinerary, always patient, helpful, flexible and professional. Fantastic experience: Mickledore's did an excellent job of planning our holiday. We walked the Cotswold Way in May 2022. The entire trip went flawlessly. The accommodations were very nice and some remarkable. The suggestions for dining were excellent. The taxi transfers were wonderful. We had booked prior to the pandemic but we had to postpone our trip. We felt comfortable that we had engaged Mickledore's because our money was safe because Mickledore's is bonded through ABTA. Our trip was flawless and our memories will last a lifetime.

Fantastic experience: Best of Hadrian's Wall, from Corbridge to Bowness on Solway, was the first ever walking holiday I've booked with Mickledore and won't be the last. All the pre holiday communications were just right in number and any queries I had were answered quickly. Fantastic experience: We originally booked our Cotswold Walking Holiday with Mickledore for summer 2020, but had to postpone it twice due to COVID. Throughout the rescheduling process, Mickledore staff were professional, helpful and very responsive. We finally went in early May 2022, and had a wonderful holiday, walking the northern half of the Cotswold Way - from Chipping Campden to Painswick - in seven days. Accommodations at the B&Bs were excellent, and at small hotels satisfactory (an unfair comparison, really, as the B&Bs were so lovely). Everywhere we stayed the owners and staff were wonderful to us: warm, welcoming, charming, witty and helpful. The food was delicious, rooms were clean, locations were in most cases scenic and beautiful. Mickledore organizes everything very well and leaves nothing out. This was my second holiday with them (I booked the Hadrian's Wall Path with them a few years ago), and I absolutely recommend them. I can't wait for my next adventure with them.

Fantastic experience: Mickledore Walking Holidays put together a fantastic mix of high quality accommodation for my recent Cleveland Way walking holiday. They also provided all the maps and guides we needed and lots of detailed information about public transport, places to eat and drink as well information to help us stay safe. Fantastic experience: We (me and wife Anne) had a brilliant time walking the South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne in 7 days. Mickledore arranged the overnight accommodation and transfers and everything ran to schedule. Accommodation, paperwork, communication and maps were spot on. Even the weather was kind on most days. 10/10

Fantastic experience: This year we walked the Dales Way which started in Ilkley and ended in Bowness on Windermere. We walked an average of 12 miles a day although some days were longer as we ventured into some lovely villages or sites of special interest. We chose May as the ideal time to visit this part of the country because the woods were full of bluebells and wild garlic and the fields were bursting with young lambs and calves. The accommodation was very varied and ranged from hotels to inns and B &B's and their locations ideal for the walk. Always great to have a hot shower and meal after a days walk! We have used Mickledore for our long walking holidays since 2015 and they are absolutely first class! Their website is very easy to navigate and offers a wide range of walks and support to suit everyone's needs and interests. Once booked they send you an information pack full of information to guide you through the walk, where to eat and all the local amenities and attractions. They organise the accommodation which is always first class and can arrange your luggage to be transported to the next accommodation so you only have to carry your essentials. The cost are very reasonable for the level of service received and we are already planning next years walk!

Fantastic experience: We had a beautiful walk through Cumbria in September 2018. As usual, Mickledore handled all the details perfectly. The accommodations were lovely, and the luggage was transferred without any problems. This was our second walking holiday with Mickledore, and we have subsequently taken two more. Fantastic experience: Just finished a fabulous 4-day walk along the Fife Coast in Scotland beautifully arranged by Mickledore. I planned this trip in 2019, but it's been postponed twice due to Covid. Throughout the last three years, as I tried to reschedule my trip, Mickledore has been patient and thorough in their communications. Their pre-trip packet was wonderfully detailed, the lodgings during our trip were excellent (and the innkeepers were a joy to meet!), and the walk itself was full of beautiful scenery. An experience I would highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Booked a walking holiday with Mickeldore across the South Downs Way - had booked it for 2020, but covid interfered - so, this was highly anticipated and did not disappoint as I walked it in April 2022. Superb customer service, delightful and pleasant lodgings - Mickeldore gets the details right and the overall experience is superb.

We have had many walking holidays with them and all have been so well managed and have taken us to some new and exciting places as well as exploring places that are more familiar. Their website and booking process are so easy and whenever we have needed to chat to them they have always been there - cheerful, helpful and responsive. We have done a large number of walking holidays with them - that is a measure of our total belief in them and their holiday offerings. I would not risk an alternative walking company.

Fantastic experience: We walked the Lady Anne Way in northern England. All arrangements were made by Mickledore Holidays. Everything was as described in their literature. Their communications, support documentation and response to questions was excellent. Highly recommended to anyone wanting a well organised, cost effective walking holiday.
