Fantastic experience: Would totally recommend this company. So efficient and over and above with maps, information and help. Just returned from Japan yesterday and wouldn’t hesitate to use them if I go back. It’s a wonderful country. Everything ran smoothly thanks to all the arrangements they made. Fantastic experience: Just returned from an 11 day quilt tour. I am an American, and James made it so easy for me to join the trip from here. Everything was well organized, and we had so many wonderful experiences that I never would have been able to accomplish on my own!. James is not a quilter, but was a great sport having to join the tour at the last minute. We were well taken care of. Accommodations were excellent, and in locations easy to explore from. I can't say enough great things about my trip!

Fantastic experience: Having just returned from the most amazing quilt and textile tour I cannot recommend Japan Journey's enough. Everything was well planned and executed from start to finish. We travelled as a group of strangers, with a shared interest in textiles, led by our tour guide and our quilt guide, we ended as friends. We met on a zoom call before travel, which helped "break the ice", as well as allowing us to ask the pre-travel questions we all had. This was really useful. We were guided safely through all things Japenese - trains, food, customs, history, culture and so much more. The textile visits and workshops were fun and instructive, even including a visit and lunch at the home of renowned quilt expert. But the itinerary covered so much more. Temples, shrines, parks, retail therapy. One highlight to me was the optional day in Hiroshima - an experience all world leaders should be required to undergo - followed by lovely Miyajima Island, a World Heritage Site. Our hotels were Western style, good quality and well located for eating out in the evening and transport link. A big tick on my bucket list. Thank you JJ's for looking after us so well and I hope to see more of Japan with you in the future.

Fantastic experience: For anyone interested in the world of Japanese quilting and textile arts, this is the tour for you. Our tour leader, James, introduced us to the subtlety of Japanese culture with visits to temples and shrines, beautiful gardens, and an optional trip to Hiroshima. He was a master at “herding” all 13 of us lively crazy quilters onto the shinkansen, subways, a Tokyo train station at rush hour, without losing anyone. All done with such grace and calmness. Thank you, James! We had hands-on classes on shibori and yuzen dying techniques. After trying your hand at such delicate techniques, you get a great appreciation for the workmanship and patience that goes into making the fabrics. One of the instructors invited us into the traditional home of his mother. What a special honor it was to see the sliding doors adorned with beautiful hundred years old kimonos. Our quilting expert, Judi, gave us 3 workshops on crazy patchwork with silk kimono fabrics, boro and sashiko stitching and we all went home with hand quilting projects to complete. Thank you, Judi. I cannot wait to share our creations on our chat site. The Yokohama Quilt Festival was a highlight of the tour, seeing amazing quilts and, of course, visiting the vendors. My favorite part of the tour was visiting the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum, featuring his life’s work “Symphony of Light.” I got goosebumps and I am sure I gasped aloud as I stood in front of the first kimono. Our final day was spent visiting the home of well-known Japanese quilter, Sashiko Yoshida. What a privilege to be treated to a lunch made by Sashiko and her 11 students, and to have front row seats to a “Show and Tell” of some of their quilts. (all hand-quilted by the way!) Interspersed with these planned events, there was free time to explore and shop. We all came away with fabric treasurers bought in Kyoto and the Nippori Fabric Town in Tokyo. I highly recommend Japan Journeys “Japan Quilt Tour” to any quilt or textile art enthusiast. I have also been checking out their other tours (bonsai, ceramics, art) as they are a stellar company that places high regard on travelers’ safety, comfort, and experiences.

Fantastic experience: Japan Journeys was excellent! They tailored our package to include our preferences and requests. The very detailed itinerary and general information including the journeys on public transport were precise and everything went according to plan. The hotels selected were very good and some of them, I would describe as superb. The Vamoos app was extremely helpful as all documentation and vouchers were located in a single place and they could be accessed offline. Our tour guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. Japan Journey staff were always available via email for any questions throughout our trip. I would most certainly recommend them for anyone needing assistance on planning their trip to Japan.

Fantastic experience: An excellent well paced tour with a good mix of history, culture, quilts, fabric and shopping James managed a group of 13 lively, chatty, independent ladies on and off trains, Shinkansen, JR lines and metro and in and out of taxis with good humour. We were frequently distracted by shops, cats and often just chatting. The highlights of the tour were the special quilt related additions, The Itchiku Kubota Museum and the wonderful lunch and afternoon with Sachiko Yoshida and her students. Would definitely like to return to Japan but would upgrade the return flight at least. Thank you James and Japan Journeys

Fantastic experience: Excellent job from James and Ruby at Japan Journeys. My sister has been to Japan many times with work and then her own family and having previously booked everything herself she has now concluded that it costs very little more to do through them They frequently make little adjustments to the trip with latest information e.g. even relating to weather, or a hotel that's not had such great recent reports, etc.

Fantastic experience: My first trip to Japan and Japan Journeys were excellent! I went for the self guided tour as I like to control my own time. Hotel selection was spot on for the cost and the 'Meet & Greet' rep was brilliant! There were a couple of mix ups with tickets but nothing that was too hard to sort out, and they swiftly reimbursed me for my own expenditure to rectify the mistakes. I had a wonderful time and the mix of the madness of Tokyo, the tranquillity of Harkone, the joy of Kyoto and the history of Takayama was perfect. Already planning to use JJ again next year!

Fantastic experience: We had an incredible time with Japan Journeys. Our family did the Manga tour plus the self-guided 7-day Hiroshima/Kyoto extension. Our guide Ruby was hugely knowledgeable and kept the energy up even when we were flagging in the August heat! My 10yo and 12yo sons really enjoyed the trip. Everything was perfectly organised and after a week with Ruby to guide us we felt confident using the bullet train by ourselves and finding our own way in the second week.

Fantastic experience: I had a lovely experience on the Summer Manga Tour 2024 with Japan Journeys. This was my first time to Japan, and for someone who loves Japanese art and pop culture, the itinerary for this tour was perfect. It had lots of variety throughout, from museums, to book stores, shopping centres, shrines and river cruises. Our excellent tour guide had a clear and streamlined schedule for each day, made sure the group was able to navigate the train network efficiently, and gave us some fantastic insights into each area of Tokyo we visited, as well as being available throughout the trip to address any questions or concerns we had. Overall, this was an experience i'll never forget, and as a single traveller i'm really pleased I chose Japan Journeys to arrange this trip for me, I would definitely use them again in the future.

Fantastic experience: A wonderful experience. The accommodations chosen by the company were made in such a way that you can easily manage visiting the sights in the city or outside of it. The train tickets were handed to us upon arrival at Narita airport by a representative of the company who also provided us with the initial necessary explanations. The documents received and the explanations in the company's journal were more than sufficient. The 19 days spent on the east coast were full, and on this occasion, we thank the company Japan Journeys for what they did for us. A lifetime experience.

Fantastic experience: I travelled with my two daughters (16, 13) on a self guided13 day essential Japan tour, with an extra two days in Tokyo. We loved Japan - an experience not to be missed and worth every single penny. I would highly recommend booking through Japan journeys as the travelling was eased with all the information they provided via the Vamous app, in addition to any queries or last minute changes. The tour was very well planned with RELAXING rest days at hotels with onsen after bustling city stays. All the hotels were of a high standard and you can expect value for money at JJ. A big thank you to all the staff at JAPAN JOURNEYS for making this trip a memorable experience - we will be back to book another self guided tour.

Fantastic experience: Excellent service! They tailored their package to include our requests. We received a very detailed iternary that was extremely useful throughout our holiday. The Vamoos app was very helpful as it had all documentation and tickets all held in one location. Their meet and greet at the airport helped with all our train ticket etc. and their personal tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly. They were always available via email for any questions throughout and we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

Fantastic experience: Just returned from a great fortnight in Japan, excellently organised by Japan Journeys.The itinerary took us from Tokyo to Hiroshima via the mountains and the wonderful blossom in Kyoto, ending in Osaka for the flight home. A combination of the bullet train service, the Vamoos app, professional guides and mobile wifi device meant everything happened seamlessly and on schedule. This is a fantastic holiday experience and we recommend JJ as a top quality service provider.

Fantastic experience: Just got back from a wonderful 2 weeks in Japan arranged by Japan Journeys. Mario ensured everything ran like clockwork as we travelled from one place to another. We visited a range of different cities which gave us a taste of Japan’s varied landscape, cuisine and culture. Our hotels were all excellent with great locations near local transport and places of interest.

The hotels were all of a high standard and were in the perfect locations. Our tour guide Mario was very knowledgeable and friendly and went above and beyond to ensure we all had a memorable time. Fantastic experience: We did a self guided 11 day tour organised by Japan Journeys & it was brilliant! The hotels were all great and the detailed itinerary, travel app & supporting documents very helpful. It was useful to have someone meet us at the airport to help get train tickets & transport sorted. We had an issue with our pocket wifi about a week in to our trip & James responded really quickly and got it reset for us. I did get quotes from a few travel agencies when we were looking to book & Japan Journeys was by far the best priced. On top of that they have a huge amount of knowledge & experience of Japan, were really responsive and gave great advice through the entire process. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to organise a trip to Japan.

The itinerary you created for us was very well balanced allowing plenty of choice and freedom to do as pleased, but hugely appreciated your ‘suggested’ train times set out in the itinerary which we tended to stick with. Fantastic experience: Hi All, I know reviews are very much one sided and this one is no except. I have found that Japan Journeys (James) organised everything very well indeed. The whole experience was excellent, life changing and would recommend that if you are considering going to Japan look no further that JJ to arrange the trip. Our Guide (Vanessa) was both knowledgeable, professional and spoke the language and I can honestly say that she is a now a friend and a credit to the company. Fantastic experience: I went to Japan for the first time in December 2023, travelling solo, and Japan Journeys organised the self-guided 'Japan arts revealed' tour for me. The whole experience was excellent from start to finish. I was able to choose exactly the dates I wanted to go, and Mario organised an excellent itinerary that, apart from being in certain cities on certain nights, I was able to follow in whatever way I wanted to, with no pressure to do anything, and the flexibility to explore whatever took my fancy. The documents I received were detailed and helpful, and when I was in Japan I felt very confident. Very highly recommended!

Fantastic experience: My wife and I have just completed an 18 days trailered made trip to Japan travelling independently. Fantastic experience: Returned last week from a wonderful Quilt Tour in Kyoto, Yokohama and Tokyo. The information provision and organisation for this tour was excellent. Our guide, Issei, was superb - calm and in good form constantly, he could not have been more helpful to us individually and as a group throughout the tour!

Fantastic experience: Just returned from our wonderful Japan Tango Tour (November 2023). Pre departure information was comprehensive and helpful. The itinerary had a rich and balanced mix of sites and cultural experiences. Both hotels were in good locations for sightseeing and our tango venues. As expected rooms were small, but well appointed and hotels exceeded expectations. Raquel, our tango teacher, provided expert and detailed guidance in the classes and genuinely improved our tango. Milongas were welcoming and Raquel’s personal connections made the events special and memorable. James, our tour leader, was warm, friendly, informative and practical. He shared his love of the country and it’s people making this an unforgettable experience. We would wholeheartedly recommend Japan Journeys.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I wanted to arrange a special holiday to celebrate 2 birthday milestones. We are self-guided visitors pretty much wherever we go, but having decided we wanted to go Japan knew we would need a specialist agency to ensure our 30 day trip was memorable. Japan Journeys did not disappoint. From our 1st phone call, the service was prompt, thoughtful and very helpful. Their initial itinerary helped refine and develop our ideas for the trip, and the final version worked extremely well. The team at Japan Journeys clearly know their stuff which was evident virtually every day of the holiday. We don't post 5 star reviews as a general rule, because it is so difficult to deliver. We have no hesitation in giving Japan Journeys 5 stars. Their knowledge, thoughtfulness, responsiveness, and just as important, attention to detail played a huge part in enabling us to have an unforgettable trip.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant travel agent - we went on a 14 day tour and the hotels and the location chosen were a really interesting range of places, from the super modern to the beautifully traditional. We looked at several agencies but Japan Journeys were the best in terms of budget and itinerary design. The level of detail and information provided via the excellent Vamoos app was absolutely invaluable and meant we never missed a train or struggled to get to the hotel. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: We did a self-guided Green Japan Tour this summer and it was perfect. I like to be critical when I write my reviews so that people get useful info when researching whatever they are looking to book or buy, but I honestly have nothing to complain about with this trip and/or company. Fantastic experience: Issei was most helpful supporting us to plan our first trip to Japan. This covered locations, pre-planned tours as well as restaurants. We also booked some of our own tours using Viator or similar. The details include train passes for the duration of our trip, pre- booked hotels and some tours including Fuji, Nara. We booked Tokyo Sky tower, Sumo Stable, Geisha experience in Kyoto. The hotels are fairly basic, but had en suites, decent breakfasts and friendly staff. We also made good use of the luggage transfer system meaning we did not have to lug heavy cases between locations. We also had Mobile internet. Overall we feel the arranged trip was well planned and met what we expected to a high degree.

Fantastic experience: Just returned from a 17 day self guided holiday in Japan. Japan Journeys booked our accommodation and bought our Japan Rail pass: everything went very well. We were provided with lots of suggestions of where to visit - but also had the flexibility to change our itinerary eg one day it was going to rain in Kyoto so we took the bullet train to Hiroshima. Some of the accommodation was outstanding: especially the more traditional ryokans with insensitive, and a monastery. We would book with them again

Fantastic experience: I must thank and commend Japan Journeys for putting together an outstanding itinerary. The trip far exceeded my expectations and although the Japanese transport system can be a little daunting, the helpful suggestions and guidance offered by Japan Journeys helped me navigate through without incident. I loved all the areas of the country covered within my itinerary but if I was forced to chose, I would say that Hakone and Kyoto stood out the most. The hotels were also great and as for the Japanese people, they are probably the most orderly and polite people I have encountered anywhere. Obviously not having my sister was a tremendous disappointment but I felt safe and in no way intimidated. Fantastic country. I was also touched and impressed by the care and consideration shown by James. On the day of my arrival, he made contact with me to ensure that I was okay as the hotel said that I hadn't arrived yet and it was extremely late. This really stood out for me. The Vamoos App which was set up for me was useful, once I started using it. A great tool. In conclusion, Japan Journeys you did a phenomenal job and I can't recommend them highly enough. Fantastic experience: Mario was amazing in organizing a 20-day trip for me only 6 weeks before departure, even working on the weekend. Perfect organization and all the hotels were very nice. Japan is very easy to explore on your own with the support of Japan Journeys, but they also offer guided tours, so I highly recommend them!

Went with the whole family on a trip put together by Japan Journeys from a list of places we wanted to see and things we wanted to do. For us this was perfect: hotels, travel, and the Meet & Greet at the airport all arranged for us, leaving us free to plan our days independently. The information provided was excellent and suggested sights and activities were invaluable. I left my Lonely Planet on the Shinkansen on the 3rd day of the trip (doh!) and I honestly didn't miss it with all the information they had provided. The hotels booked for us were ideal - central, close to public transport and comfortable. Thanks again!

Fantastic experience: Second time I've used Japan Journeys and they have got even better! The first time I went on the Manga Tour years ago. This time I had a absolutely fantastic time on the Classic Japan Tour Cherry Blossom Time. We visited many beautiful locations thanks to are brilliant guide Mario, who is a lovely bloke and very knowledgeable. He also never put a foot wrong in the places he took us to to eat in the evenings too, really delicious food and different every night. If you want a very well guided tour with a top quality guide without the hassle of sorting it out yourself I can't recommend Japan Journeys enough. Are guide Mario was very good at accommodating for the mix of ages of the people on the tour which is nice to see as well. So a plus if you are a more mature person. The 3 hotels we stayed in were very nice and ideally located to travel out from each day. The optional day tour to Nikko was also a highlight as its a beautiful area. No question I'll be using Japan Journeys again!

In probably the busiest time of the Japanese holiday year, you managed to plan our trip, organise hotels, book guides and sort out transport within about 3 days. Everything worked perfectly. I was particularly impressed by the way you used the Vamoos app and gave me lots of detailed maps and information about locations plus all the booking logistics. Highly recommend. It was an amazing holiday and we couldn't have done it without you.

Self guided tour organised from Tokyo to Miyajama to Hiroshima then Kyoto. Bus tours organised for main cities. Amazing stay in Jukeiso a traditional Japanese Roykan in Miyajama with traditional food, Yukata to wear and onsen. JR pass vouchers organised and wonderful trips to cities using the bullet train. It was certainly great value for money, I have never been on a guided tour before and would have missed so much if I’d been travelling independently. Fantastic experience: A well organised and most enjoyable 10 day tour of Japan. Our tour leader, Mario, was fantastic so knowledgeable and pleasant to be with. I would recommend the Cherry Blossom tour to anybody who loves gardens and who is also interested in a different culture. What was most impressive was the cleanliness and the good manners of the Japanese. Highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Honestly cannot recommend Japan Journeys enough! When my friends and I saw the Manga tour on their site, it sounded perfect for us and it truly was plus so much more! The itinerary was a wonderful mix of anime and manga hotspots alongside visiting traditional and historical locations full of a culture so very different to ours which was so interesting to learn about. We had an amazing time guided around Tokyo in the main tour by our tour leader Issei who taught us so much about the locations we visited as well as how to get around the city so that we felt comfortable going it alone when it came to exploring independently during the extension tour in Kyoto, Osaka and surrounding areas. Shoutout to James and Mario too who, alongside Issei, provided us with the trip of a lifetime worth every penny! I wouldn’t hesitate in using Japan Journeys again and if you’re thinking of booking a tour with them, do it, you will not regret it! ☺️

Fantastic experience: I decided to book the Manga tour and Kyoto extension with Japan Journeys after first seeing an advert for them in NEO magazine. I decided to book on a tour as was too nervous to go on my own and the Manga tour was covering exactly what I would have wanted to see and more. Our guide Issei was excellent, friendly and instantly made me feel at ease and it felt like he was another member of the group rather than the tour guide. Whilst you are part of a group you have free time in each place you visit to do what you want and go where you want. For me the balance between having free time and been with the group was perfect and after spending a few days on the tour and seeing how the train systems worked it gave me the confidence to get around on my own, plus Japan Journeys provided us with a very useful app. This is the trip of a lifetime for anime/manga fans & I can’t recommend booking with Japan Journeys highly enough. Every day I was on the trip we did something amazing & just when I thought the holiday had peaked you were blown away again the next day. Basically if you want to go to Japan and enjoy anime/manga then book yourself on this trip, you won’t regret it!

Fantastic experience: My wife and I had an amazing time in Japan. Booking through Japan Journeys was really simple and when there the guide - Issei - was brilliant. We enjoyed it so much. The places we saw and food/culture we experienced was absolutely fantastic. I highly highly recommend the Anime/Manga tour to anyone who loves it as it was really exciting for the whole week and we wish we could have stayed longer. Book a trip. You won't regret it at all.

Fantastic experience: Japan Journeys were very responsive and reactive and helped me organize a very last minute Christmas/New Year trip to Japan Dec 2022 for me and my family (5 PAX). Mario was very pleasant to work with and our trip was seamless in terms of meet and greet, pocket wifi box, JR passes etc. The vamoos app was a super helpful tool to accompany the trip.

Fantastic experience: Fabulous trip to a beautiful country made perfect by our friends at Japan Journeys. We had to cancel a trip elsewhere and so came to JJ at very short notice with a very narrow time window to be able to put together the trip of a lifetime. They stepped up and got us the most wonderful package sorted within 24 hours. 5 days later we were on a plane with a full pack of detailed information. We were met at the airport, had a helpful local agent sort our train bookings and get us in the car which took us to an amazing hotel for the start of our adventure. I'm writing this having returned a few days ago and we are still walking on air. Thank you again chaps!

Fantastic experience: I would highly recommend booking your trip to Japan through Japan Journeys. I could not have asked for anything more from a travel agent. Big shout out to Mario who was lovely to deal with and also super knowledgeable. Everything was so well organised and any questions which I had were answered quickly. I was particularly impressed by the level of detail in my itinerary and how this had been tailored to what I was specifically interested in. They also provided a whole host of additional documents to make travelling around Japan easier. Whilst I was booking my trip the regulations to Japan were constantly changing but Japan Journeys were always on top of these and made sure that I had completed the relevant documentation.

Fantastic experience: Every dealing I have with Japan Journeys is a pleasure - I've been lucky enough to go on both one of their guided tours and a self-guided trip and I've had a wonderful experience each time; with the guided tour - the guide on the tour was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and we did so much in the time including visiting the Studio Ghibli museum. With the self guided tour we advised them of things we wanted to do and required. i.e. Tokyo Disney, Universal, Rail Pass and they made sure to arrange it all and once we arrived we were met by a lovely lady who helped us get our JR Rail Passes and then explained how to get to our hotel and then we were off on another adventure!...They really made the entire process stress free and straightforward. I honestly couldn't think of a better company to arrange a trip with...They truly go above and beyond to help out - even going so far as to help reorganise a trip to a completely new destination at short notice due to the borders being closed on the dates we were meant to travel, and whilst it wasn't Japan we had an amazing time in Orlando visiting both Disney world and Universal! And I can't thank them enough for their help! I can't wait to start planning my next trip to Japan - I'm not sure when it will be but I know who I will be contacting first when I'm ready!
