Jagged Globe: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Jagged Globe did a great job - fun ski tour guide, super group and excellent day tours even if the visibility less than ideal. The hotel served good food and was comfortable.
Thanks Audrey. I'm glad you had a good week despite poor vis. Tom
Fantastic experience: Another excellent ski touring/mountaineering trip by Jagged Globe. Our guide Andy Owen assessed us perfectly and took us to our limits and above. 5 peaks from 3400 to 3750m knocked off in 6 days. I’ve been using Jagged Globe for 9 years and this has been the best so far.
Thank you Nigel - much appreciated and I hope to see you next year too.
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: My husband and I joined the ‘intro to ski touring’ course. It was just what we needed. Catalin, our guide supported and guided us through each step. We left the week feeling exhilarated and prepared to practice it alone (so exactly what we’d hoped for). Tailored to meet our needs in a breathtaking locations. We would wholly recommend! Lucy
Thanks Lucy - that's great to read. I'll make sure Catalin knows you both a great time when I see him in the next few weeks. Hopefully, we will see you on an alpine ski tour in the near future. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: I have just returned from Snow and Ice climbing in Scotland and it was another great trip/course. This was my 10th trip with JG (8th Scottish winter). Simon V was brilliant, getting us out on the hill and on great routes everyday in some challenging conditions. The JG office staff were helpful as usual. Cannot recommend enough
Fantastic experience: I did the winter mountaineering course with Jagged Globe which was a thoroughly enjoyable week, and is one which I would highly recommend for anyone looking to improve their winter mountaineering skills. Jagged Globe are excellent.
Thanks Paul - it is very nice to know you had a good time with us in Scotland. We look forward to you putting the training into practice with your next climbing adventure with us.
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: I successfully summited Mount Aconcagua with Jagged Globe on the 21st of January 2025 after 15 days of sweat, tears, and pure determination. The entire experience with Jagged Globe was exceptional—from securing my booking to the actual expedition, everything was world-class. Our main guide was highly experienced, and we felt safe and well taken care of throughout the trip. This adventure changed me in more ways than one. Thank you, Jagged Globe, for an unforgettable experience! I highly recommend Jagged Globe to anyone, even if you're outside the UK. Gerhard le Roux, Cape Town, South Africa
Hi G - I can feel the emotions of your ascent as I read your words. More than many mountains, Aconcagua has the power to do that. I found myself having to find some time and space on the summit, when I first climbed it, for a moment of introspection - so the tears you mention can be of joy as well as of frustration. It's a brute until the final steps that lead to the top give rise to gratitude and satisfaction for having been allowed to get there. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Mera Peak Oct 2024: EPIC! I could chew your ear off for ages on the thrills of the Himalayas and the feeling of summiting a 6,641m peak, on a perfect clear day, with 5x 8,000m+ peaks all in one vista but that's not what differentiates Jagged Globe and makes them exceptional. The Group We were 9 in the group. All from a variety of places in UK, and of all shapes, sizes and ages. We all got on like a house on fire and I feel like I made real friends. We had a laugh and got it done. The Support Jelzin, our Sirdar, and his team of Sherpas were very attentive and looked after us so well. Our cook was unbelievable. The food was top-notch and always plentiful. They even baked a birthday cake and apple pie without an oven! Like, how? Our mountain guide was Ed Shard, and he was the perfect balance of fun, coaching, ensuring high standards of service and supportive. The team of porters were bloody tough too. They are such wonderful people. The Expedition Organization - everything was so well coordinated. Everything including contingencies already considered. You see other companies and groups out and about and in camp and they were not a patch on Jagged Globe's operation. Acclimatisation - nobody in our group had negative reactions to the altitude. The route is really well considered to make sure all can get their body's ready for the summit. Other groups go way quicker to altitude and they looked rough and like they weren't enjoying it. We were all smiles. If you need an expedition operator. Go Jagged Globe. I never need to shop around for my future adventures. If JG do it, it's a no-brainer, I'll go with Jagged Globe.
Fantastic experience: Jagged Globe is always my first choice for my adventures in the mountains and they’ve always delivered the best experiences.
Fantastic experience: The trip was a wonder! The scenery, the variety of trekking, the adventure side of it, the food, people in it. No many teams are going there, track is not overcrowded. The physical demand is horrendous, but it worth every effort. Did not like camping in it , but there were no lodges on a treck. Have to be prepare for a cold, but it unavoidable in altitude. In the end of a trek it was clear that it was difficult trail, days of walking (overlond), but it helped an acclimatization. Overall : highly recommended and desirable trip, you might consider. The leader Simon Lowe was amasing ! Thank you for your care and pictures! Thanks Jagged Globe! We will meet again!:-)
Hi Svetlana
Thanks for your comments and for 5 stars. The trip runs well and has a high rate of success, because of its length! Even though it is hard for people to take long breaks from work and shortening a trip makes it cheaper too (so bottom-feeding operators can make the argument compelling), a shorter trip means less acclimatisation, which means less success and, the corollary, more illness due to AMS (acute mountain sickness). As you recognise, these things are immutably linked. After 25 years of running the trip, we think we've got it right because we are more successful at getting people safely to the top with fewer evacuations due to ill-judged acclimatisation, than anyone else. We also like the scenery that is captured during the longer walk in to base camp - all things that you liked too.
On the other-hand, we do try to create shorter trips because of the commitment people have to make, but these are to lower, less remote mountains to ensure the rules of acclimatisation we chose to adopt are not broken. The other thing that a longer trip allows is to change plans if the weather demands it. Too often Himalayan trips are ruined because they have no chance to linger, just for a day, should bad weather interrupt their preordained schedule. Most of our itineraries have an extra "spare" day exactly for that reason - but, if they are not used, they may seem unnecessary.
Anyway this is always a good conversation to have so thank you for allowing me the chance to open up about the length of trips-v-acclimatisation and the weather. Once people know that they are good at acclimatising, perhaps with a trip such as Mera Peak under their belt, it should be possible to choose future trips that have more demanding ascent profiles. We lay these out in the information for many of the trips on the website, or people can call to discuss their experience set against any trip we offer.
Once more, thank you for having had such a good time in Nepal with us and for recommending us to others who might be thinking of climbing there.
I hope we see you on another trip soon, with all the advantages of you having cracked another 6,000-metre mountain. And many congratulations for having done so.
Best wishes
Simon
Fantastic experience: My son (15) and I did a mt meru and Kilimanjaro via the Umbwe route with Jagged Globe and their local partner Keyes Hotel. The planning, organising and execution was faultless. The instructions pre trip were helpful and concise and the service on the ground, from the hotel accommodation to the guides (Bosco and Moses) and porter team was first class. A further special mention must be given to Bosco and Moses from Keyes, they were the two best guides I’ve ever had. Their care, skills and fitness levels were remarkable. The whole porter team was brilliant. Miranda from Keyes hotel also made our stay at the hotel outstanding. My thanks to the Jagged Globe team and their partners.
Fantastic experience: I've just come back from the Manaslu Circuit trip in Nepal and, in short, it was as a good a trek as it's possible to imagine! It was also very well organised, with excellent accommodation throughout and outstanding staff on the ground in Nepal. This was my fifth trip with Jagged Globe and I there's no doubt it won't be my last. Now where shall I go in 2025.....?
Fantastic experience: So simple when booking with JG. They always seem to do a great job matching me with like minded and capable partners. Guides are always super professional.
Hi James - thanks for your review of your latest alpine climbing week with us. I'm glad it was a good experience, shared with kindred spirits. We look forward to your next adventure! Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Been to the Alps a couple of times now with Jagged Globe, always a great experience. Communication before you go is good, the pricing is fair and the guides are knowledgeable and friendly. No real negatives and I would recommend JG to anyone looking to get into Mountaineering.
Thanks Anthony - it's great to know you've had another good week with us climbing in the Alps. We hope to see you next year too. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Had a lovely time out in Pakistan with jagged globe..A very tough trek,But our guide Alun made it a very enjoyable experience..Had some good laughs along the way with lovely sunshine most days..would definitely use jagged globe again...
Hi Lachie, it is very nice to know you had a good time with Alun, trekking in the Karakoram to K2 Base Camp. I hope we will see you on another trip soon - if I can help with that, then please let me know. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Fantastic guides and an amazing experience in Beautiful scenery in the Swiss Alps
Hi Jane - it is very nice to know you had an amazing time in the Alps with us in the Oberland. I am very grateful for your forbearance in the run-up to the trip. All of us here, are looking forward to your next adventure with us. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Had an absolutely awesome time! I,d personally like to thank Tim Bird for his time and guidance and to the team for faultless organisation...looking forward to my next adventure through you! Kevin A
Hi Kevin, very many thanks for your generous review. I'm so pleased you had a great time with Tim leading your trip. I'll be seeing him later this week, as he's leading a pre-trip weekend for our next group of climbers and trekkers. I'll pass on your remarks and best wishes to him. We're very happy you're looking forward to your next trip with us and we look forward to welcoming you again, as well.
best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Us two blokes in our 60s just completed a traverse of the Cuillin Ridge with Jagged Globe's guide Simon Verspeak. He was really first class: patient, safe and a great trainer, as well as good company. And Jagged Globe's admin, as always, was spot on
Thanks for your kind words, Tim. It was a great pleasure to help you and Sean in your quest to complete the traverse. And the weather looked superb! I'll ensure Simon V knows your had a good time in the mountains with him. Best wishes, as ever Simon
Fantastic experience: Great company, really well organised expeditions using excellent local guides. All efforts made to ensure all preparations are in place and clients are well supported when away, thoroughly recommend!
Thank you Simon, very good to know your had a great trip with us. I hope we see you again soon, Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Excellent pre-trip organisation with emphasis on safety. During the trip pretty much all the objectives were achieved with excellent guiding and local knowledge from Jim Blyth.
Thanks Frank - very glad to know you had a great great trip with Jim.
Fantastic experience: Excellent off piste skiing course in Chamonix. Jagged Globe’s team were first class. Fun, friendly, encouraging and hugely experienced - and knew all the best spots. The hotel was charming with great views though the rooms were a little basic, but you don’t spend much time in them anyway.. All in all a great week and highly recommended.
I'm glad you had a good week Tom. Hope to see you again next winter!
Fantastic experience: Climbed with JG to Elbrus(2018) and Aconcagua(2024), the experience and organisation has been excellent. Cannot recommend them enough!
Hi Andrei - it is always great to have you along on our trips. Very many congratulations on reaching the summit of Aconcagua this time and I hope we will see you again soon, Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Another successful and highly enjoyable Jagged Globe trip - invited to fill a space by the other participants when one of their number dropped out. Conditions were not optimal (to say the least), but once we had skinned over the grass on lower slopes and got up into the mountains proper, everything improved. Guide Andy was at his best in adapting the itinerary for the changing conditions, taking an experienced and mature approach which reflected both our collective abilities and the variability of conditions. I give JG 5 stars, but the snow conditions somewhat less! Nevertheless, "I'll be back"
Hi Matt - great to see you again in the Alps. It wold have been nice to have seen some snow as well, but a lot (relatively) has arrived since you travelled home! Ready, I hope, for your return next week for the Haute Route. Andy is on the traverse now, so he'll tell you all about the conditions, as he found them, when we see you on Saturday evening. Anyway, it was great that you could join the Albula team, after you met them at the early season ski weekend. I hope there will be many more such journeys with well-found friendships in the future. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: I had a brilliant experience with Max Hunter of Jagged Globe in Glencoe. The weather was wet and the conditions were less than ideal throughout but we made the most of it. A really good guiding day in Ballachulish where I achieved my objective of bagging a munro and having a good (safe) ridge scramble was followed by a day of deeper learning and also munro bagging. Learning how to operate independently in winter in poor visibility was invaluable and I feel like I have made a great investment in myself for future adventures. I found Max Hunter to be warm, engaging, highly knowledgeable, enthusiastic and most of all patient in my time with him. No question was off limits and I felt I learned more in my two days with him than any other guide I have worked with. He was fun and good company throughout. Jagged Globe will be my go to for future Scottish trips - I cannot commend them highly enough. Thanks to Natalie and Ed for their extensive support back at base. Look forward to further trips together.
Hi Paul - very many thanks for your fulsome feedback, and praise for Max plus Natalie and Ed. I'll make sure they know. I'm glad we were able to support your trip to Scotland all the way through and we look forward to seeing you again, in Scotland, or elsewhere, soon. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Rush Peak and Hunza Valley 2023: This was an excellent and very enjoyable trek through some amazing mountains in a beautiful and very friendly country. Jagged Globe logistics worked without a hitch and great accommodation was provided in-country before and after the trek. The food provided at camp was superb as was the support received from all the guides and porters. The route was interesting and took us through some stunning scenery and to some amazing camp sites. The camp kit was good and a mess tent and loo tent were available at all sites. I would unreservedly recommend this trip to anyone who is a competent and confident walker and enjoys the great outdoors. However it should be made clear that some of the paths are challenging in terms of gradient, surface and the amount of exposure, and the glacier crossings can be interesting!
Thanks Bob for your thorough feedback. I hope it will help others decide if this trip may be for them. Also, it's very nice to know you had an enjoyable time and all things were delivered to a high standard. Therefore, I look forward to your next trip with us when we'll endeavour to continue with the high level of service you've enjoyed so far on our trips.
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: This is a small company so you get personal attention from them. I used them for a trekking holiday in Norway and I was impressed by their organisation and their regular communications. They do a range of trips so I am sure you will find whatever it is you are looking for in the great outdoors with them.
Hi Howard - very many thanks for your comments - everyone here is very pleased to read them. I am hope too that, despite the extreme weather you had a worthwhile trip to Norway, even though it must have been challenging? Anyway, I hope you'll travel with us again soon, so please let me know if there are any questions I can answer for you about any of our trips (climbs, treks or skis). Best wishes, Simon Lowe
Fantastic experience: Excellent agency for organizing climbing expeditions. I used them twice - in Nepal and Peru and was very impressed both times.
Thank you Marcela, we've enjoyed organising trips to both countries for over 30 years, since our own first climbing expeditions there. It's great to know that that thread of adventure continues and is being enjoyed by you and others.
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Excellent company with well organised tours. Did the Haute Route in April 2023 and was impressed with all staff I interacted with. Our guide Andy was particularly great. Wouldn't hesitate to book again with Jagged Globe for ski touring.
Fantastic experience: Bookdd the Snow and Ice Climbing course in Scotland in March 2023, I'm just gonna give my view on what I can rate: Booking: super easy, the guys working there helped us a lot regarding the rental equipment they offer and what would be the easiest way to pay, additional nights, what snacks will be offered during the climb etc Instructors: we went with Clive Hebblethwaite - superb instructor. Taking it a little bit easier the first to days to get back into climbing and seeing what we knew and how good we were (Sprint Gully on Aonach Mor and South Gully on the Ben). We then went to Comb Gully on the Ben and the Crypt Route on Bidean nam Bian. Especially the latter one was a superb joice. Hard enough so we could to do it whole being a real challenge but not too difficult so it would have been a problem. Clyve took really nice pictures of us if the situation allowed it and made sure, we would get most out of the week, even if it meant spending 10+ hours on the Ben. I can rate the other guides just from hearsay but the other clients we're all positive about their guides as well (Max and Nick). Equipment: I rented everything apart from the helmet, my harness and boots. It was all top notch. I would recommend you bring your own boots though, as other clients had problems with finding a rental boot that really fit them. Hotel: the Ballachulish hotel is really nice, with a lot of choices for breakfast. They'll provide every climber with 2 sandwiches and a flap jack for lunch. I asked for flapjacks only as I don't like sandwiches, worked out fine. The dinner is good and the rooms are fine as well. The sauna is about 5 minutes by car away though, so be aware of that. Overall a definitive recommendation to go with jagged Globe. We had guys on our trip that have done the course the 7th time - guess this is a clear sign how good it is.
Thank you - that's a great overview, that people looking for a climbing course in Scotland will benefit from. I am very pleased too that the entire experience, from booking to climbing to relaxing at the hotel between hard days on the hill, was delivered to a high standard. I hope you'll return next winter and join the many others who join us each year.
Best wishes, Simon Lowe
Fantastic experience: Just back from Ecuador. We booked to climb Cotopaxi but unfortunately we couldn't attempt it due to eruptive activity, so our schedule changed to have a crack at Cayambe instead. Overall, we had a brilliant experience. The accommodation and food over there was really top notch. Our Guide Jóse was also superb. He was very knowledgeable, spoke perfect English and went the extra mile to ensure we were always safe and comfortable. He was also very patient with us when we were struggling with the cold and altitude on Cayambe. All the logistics were managed perfectly throughout the trip. Thanks Jagged Globe and as we didn’t get a chance to climb Cotopaxi, at least we've got an excuse to book this trip again!!
Hi Anthony - Yes, Ecuador is a great place to have an excuse to go back to - and not just for the mountains, but for the whole experience! Cayambe is a great climb too, but the tug of Cotopaxi will inevitably lure you back - so I look forward to that! Meanwhile, I will let Jóse know you had a good time climbing with him, and I will also let everyone involved in organising your trip to Ecuador, and in-country, that they did a good job for you. Thank you.
All the best, Simon
Fantastic experience: Just returned from and amazing trek up Kili with 2 local guides - Bosco & Collins ! These guys are The A Team and you always felt like you were in safe hands - if you decide to do this trip , and if you can , ask for Bosco & Collins as your local guides and I 100% guarantee you they will not disappoint ! Thanks JG , Bosco & Collins - It was a truly amazing experience !!!!!
That's great to hear Owain - thank you. The seam of excellence that runs through our team in Tanzania is deep and we're proud to be able to call upon Bosco and Collins as among the best. I will certainly send your praises and thanks along with mine to them for a job well done. It so nice to read that the whole trip was such an amazing experience for you. For me, a visit to Tanzania is always a joy for the wonderful people you meet there - a climb of Kilimanjaro is an added bonus! Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Just back from a winter climb of Toubkal in Morocco. Very well organised by Jagged Globe with an excellent guide in Ella. Thanks all!
Hi Steve - that's great to know, thank you. I'll ensure Ella knows too as well as all those involved in putting the trip together for you and the team.
See you again soon, I hope!
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Trekked to Makalu base camp with Jagged Globe in October. Fantastic trip and extremely well run. A more remote trek than some of the well-known Himalayan experiences and all the better for it. Trek takes you through a range of landscapes from jungle to rhododendron forests to views along the snow line of Makalu and along the valley to Everest and Lhotse. Great organisation and well-looked after by Simon our Sherpa team as well as Rosie and the team in Sheffield. Thank you to everyone involved.
Hi Nigel - very many thanks for your comments and review here. I'll pass them on to all those who helped put the trip together for you - especially Rosie in Sheffield and Shiv and his team in Nepal, as well as to Mingma our Sirdhar. As you know, I had a great time trekking with you all - for the reasons you sum up nicely here - but mostly for the solitude of the Barun National Park and the majesty of the mountains. I hope we're all able to catch-up on home turf in the near future. Have a good Christmas in the meantime, Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Just returned from Everest Base Camp trip and it was incredible. The guides and porters - Bi Bi Rai, BJ, Paban, Nima & Dipak - were exceptional and made our holiday. They made us laugh until we cried and were with us every step of the way. Nepal is a stunning country and this trip was breath taking. It is hard? No except for AMS which is non discriminatory. If you are fit and used to hiking this trip is a must. The accommodation was great and as described except for Gorak Shep where the facilities are limited and toilets are the most disgusting we have ever seen. Think cow shed with ice! The accommodation at Lukla also needs revisiting too as the current tea house is very outdated and there is black mould on the roof of the rooms. My partner is a coeliac and lost 1 stone 2 lbs on the trip. There is no understanding or consideration for GF options in Nepal (understandably). This ideally should have been shared up-front by JG and allowance made for him too bring his own food, snacks and cereals etc. I also don't think it needs to take a week to come down from Gorak and we could have walked for longer on the days coming back. Despite that we would definitely travel with JG again and this trip makes me realise I have 6000m+ in me and maybe some mountaineering too!!!
Hi Letty - thank you for your feedback. We'll examine the use of the lodge in Lukla, as there are other options there, but Gorak Shep is more limited, as you know (and none too pleasant). I am sorry too that we didn't manage your GF request better. We did share this up-front with Nepal and discussed this with them before you went. I am sure even with the limitation on alternatives, we could improve that and we will aim to make sure that happens. As to walking back down - we go by the traditional porter stages and even yaks, dzos and donkeys, when used, prefer to have shorter days even though fit humans, now acclimatised to base camp heights, can walk for further on the way out than they could on the way in! Also, having a bit of slack at the rear end, gives some flexibility in the early stages if extra time might be needed for acclimatisation or to dodge around bad weather or tummy troubles, for example.
Anyway, I am delighted you had a fantastic time with the local Sherpas - we're very fortunate to have built up a trusted and valued relationship with some of the best local leaders and Sherpas, during our, more than, 20 years of visiting Nepal. So, it leaves me to say, thanks once more for travelling to Nepal with us and for having had such a great time! I hope we see you on another trek or expedition with us soon.
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Went on a trek to Everest Base Camp with Jagged Globe and the whole process was smooth end-to-end. When booking a trip in a remote location the other side of the world you want to know that you are in safe hands and I felt that I was in safe hands on every step of the way. Local guides in Nepal continued carrying out the high standard of service that we received in the UK. Thank you Jagged Globe.
You're very welcome James. Thank you for your comments here - it is great to know you had a good time from start to finish, and I hope we see you again soon on another adventure. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: I recently returned from a trip to Everest Base Camp organised by Jagged Globe. The company was clear with their communication throughout and the pre-trip weekend they offer is a fantastic addition to an absolutely amazing trip. Couldn't recommend them more. Their team on the ground is also fantastic and I couldn't fault them at all.
Thank you Chris - that's very heartening to read. I will pass your comments on to everyone invovled in organising your journey to base camp, as they'll be pleased to read it. I hope we see you again soon.
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Had my trip to Mera Peak delayed over covid for about 3 years and the team at JG were extremely supportive over this time. Finally got to go in Oct 22 and they lived up to expectations - a very well chosen itinerary with flexibility which was sometimes needed and was always handled comfortably. I picked up many useful tips from our leader, Jamie who was always on the ball and gave us all the information we needed when we needed it. Their focus is to make sure you're safe, make sure you succeed, and make sure you have fun and make friends - none of this racing to the top nonsense! The company itself is a hotbed of connections and characters with all kinds of experiences. Remain humble and you can transform your approach and appreciation of adventure with a single conversation here!
Thank you very mush for this supportive feedback. It sums up what we try to be for all of those people who entrust their adventures to us. I hope we see you again in the near future for your next journey into the mountains.
All the best, Simon Lowe
Fantastic experience: Just back from Himlung Himal with Jagged Globe. This is my second trip to the Himalayas with them and it certainly won't be the last. From the booking experience, the pre-trip advice, to the logistics and support given on the expedition, everything was top-notch. While Jagged Globe may not be the cheapest service out there they are certainly one of the best - in the uncertain world of adventure travel you certainly get what you pay for. Their expert knowledge, planning and the experience of their local team at your chosen location provides you with the very best chance of achieving your mountaineering and trekking goals.
Thanks Mark, that marvellous. I'll pass it on to everyone involved in organising the climb. Many thanks and I look forward to your next expedition with us.
best wishes, Simon
ps, sorry I missed you and the team in Kathmandu - I was away early in the morning before breakfast to Solukhumbu.
Fantastic experience: We’ve just come back from the Makalu base camp trek which was a remote and wild adventure. We think we only met about 30 people from abroad on the whole 16 days we were away from Kathmandu. It was a wonderful escape from technology and the bustle of modern day life. The views were amazing. Jagged Globe’s team led by Mingma Sherpa were excellent at making sure we were safe along the journey of washed out bridges and landslips and comfortable in all the tea houses. They also made sure we had the right amount of rest days so that we didn’t get altitude sickness (many companies rush you up the altitude gradient without checking the charts properly) so all of us got there and back safely. We’re planning our next trip soon.
Thanks Amelia - it was a great experience to trek with you and the team and to stand under the massive west wall of Makalu. You're right about the simplicity of the Barun National Park - even from Solukhumbu where I am now, I'm missing it! See you all soon I hope in the Peak District, best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: A thoroughly enjoyable week on the Haute Route in August. The support from Natalie & team in the lead up was excellent, and our guide Andy was second to none. I’ll be booking with Jagged Globe again and would have no hesitation in recommending them.
Thank you Louise - it's nice to read such a pleasant comment, and I will share it with Andy and Natalie too. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: 3 of us have just finished a successful trek up Kilimanjaro with Jagged Globe. From start to finish all the team at Jagged Globe have been excellent. Quick to respond, great induction weekend, fantastic knowledge and very helpful. Our UK guide in Tanzania itself, Tim, was brilliant. The local team they used to support the trek, were fantastic. Would recommend Jagged Globe and we will be looking at other treks they do
Thanks Andy - that's fabulous to read. I will pass it on to all involved. See you again soon, I hope! Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: From start to finish, we had an amazing trip to the summit of Mont Blanc and simply can't fault anything. Our guide Andy is certainly one of the best and his expert knowledge, easy manner and humour kept things moving smoothly at all times. The itinerary is really well-paced, with some memorable and challenging experiences on the 'Italian Side' during the acclimatisation stage, before the actual 2-day ascent of Mont Blanc. The actual summit day is of course the focus of the trip and requires a decent level of fitness and ability to deal with high levels of exposure. Other than perhaps the risks posed by strong winds, it never felt like we wouldn’t make it and Andy explained each stage in detail in advance. Prior to the trip there had been some doubt about the feasibility of attempting MB due to rockfall and we received an alternative itinerary which would have been equal to Mont Blanc in experience and value, though thankfully was not required. JG office staff are very helpful and offer a very personalised service, including trying to answer daft questions about the best sunglasses to buy – by the way, it’s definitely worth investing in a good quality pair as they make all the difference for days on the glacier. The hotel in Chamonix was also very comfortable with friendly staff and they do a great breakfast. Thank you to all at JG… so many fine memories and I can't wait until the next trip.
Thanks Grigor - that's a great report which will help other people in deciding if Mont Blanc is for them, and if they should choose us to be their partner to the summit. I hope we see you in the alps, or elsewhere in the mountains, soon! Best wishes, Simon
PS: I hope you'll looked cool in your sunnies!
Fantastic experience: Everything was perfect - the pre trip advice, the hotel, the pre summit climbs and prep, our guide Andy. Thank you for showing me the top of Mont Blanc !!!
Brilliant Diane - I am glad you made it with Andy as your trusted guide (jokes aside!). I'll pass on your thanks to him. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Jagged Globe organized a private trek for me and four friends of the Tour du Mont Blanc. Everything was planned and managed exceptionally well. Our three guides, Victoria, Alex, Caroline and our on-ground logistics coordinator Rachel were outstanding. They came up with "Plan B-C, D" etc as needed to accommodate our individual needs along the journey--all with a smile and good sense of humor. We were pleased that they offered local cultural information and made suggestions regarding the best place for gelato, where to get last minute supplies, and advice for packing our rucksacks. Natalie and the JG office staff coordinated our ever-changing (Covid!) booking and travel arrangements flawlessly. Jagged Globe is just the best--no other company can compare!
Hi Ann - you've got my cheeks red with blushes! But, thanks for being a great group - Rachel was telling me how terrific it was to have an easy going, good humoured team to help - so it's all mutual - just reflecting back your own positive outlook from start to finish. I'm only sorry I could not be there for just part of the time, to walk a little way with you all. May be next time, hopefully! As ever, all best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Back in Chamonix and recovering from summit of Mont Blanc. Thank you for all the great admin and organisation before our trip. Great to meet Rachel and Catalin last week. Catalin was a superb guide, very helpful, knowledgeable trained us well and corrected me when I needed it. He was extremely safe and looked after us and without his guidance and decisions we would not have reached the summit of Mont Blanc 4810M. The views and the memories will stay on my mind for ever. I would have no hesitation in recommending him or Jagged Globe to anyone. Thank you.
Thanks Mitchell - that's heartfelt feedback, indeed. I will ensure Catalin knows you appreciate his expertise for the ascent and to Rachel for her help as well. Well done on reaching the summit - it's great to know the memories are imprinted forever! Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: I went for the Matterhorn summit week in early August. The guides were excellent and clearly motivated to get us to the top, which we did. During the booking process, the customer service reps were very helpful and responded quickly. Hotel accommodation was clearly a lot better than cheaper alternatives, with excellent meals included. Edit (21/08/2022): I returned to JG again this year for "Chamonix Climber". JG provided an excellent experience from start to finish. Customer service - excellent. Accommodation - excellent - a little cramped but staff were very helpful and the food was great. Guides - excellent - they allowed us to get the most out of the trip, despite the bad weather on a couple of days, and I managed to climb the Rebuffat route on S. Face of Aiguille du Midi, which was high on my bucket list. Thank you once again!
Thanks Rob - its was great to hear you'd reached the top of the Matterhorn, no easy feat! I hope we see you back to climb more in the Alps or anywhere, for that matter, soon.
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Brilliant course, great instructors, make sure you turn up fit!
Thanks Matt - I'm off to do some training now! See you again soon, I hope.
Best wishes, Simon
Negative experience: A truly memorable Haute Route adventure from Chamonix to Zermatt, despite the unusually hot conditions. The guides were 1st class, highly experienced and clearly very competent, and managed a number of difficult and potentially dangerous situations in a calm and calculated manner. The incidents that occurred did however highlight the difficulty of managing operations in the mountains without the aid of satellite phones or radio communications, and begs the question why radios or sat. phones are not made available to the guides as a standard. Despite the hazards introduced by the high temperatures the guides managed to adapt the 8 day itinerary and varied the routes without in any way diminishing the quality of the overall expedition. My only disappointment was related to the Mont Blanc extension which I'd booked to follow-on directly from the Haute Route expedition; despite Jagged Globe's guides clearly stating that the Mont Blanc extension would be cancelled due to the mountain being out of condition (for the route applicable to the hut selection / booking), Jagged Globe later refused to acknowledge the cancellation, instead stating that we were obliged to pursue an alternative trip to Grand Paradiso in the event that Mont Blanc was unclimbable, although this was not explained at the time. To make the Gran Paradiso 'option' mandatory is clearly incorrect, particularly when such a position is taken after the fact, and clearly contradicts what had been agreed with the company's guides at the time of the Haute Route course. I trust that in due course a full refund will be made, in which case I would have no hesitation in promoting Jagged Globe's guided tours.
The alternative of Gran Paradiso, should Mont Blanc be out of condition, was explained on our website and in the course notes before you booked, as you know. So, it was all explained before hand, let alone at the time, but you didn't read it. What's more, we make no guarantee at all about any mountain being in condition and reasonably safe to climb - so for any climber hoping to climb any mountain, flexibility and a readiness for disappointment are bedfellows. Conditions can always change, even overnight, so an ability to flip plans to a mountain or away from a mountain is essential. Despite you walking away, all costs associated with your planned climb had to be met - otherwise, our guide would have gone unpaid and the hut and hotels left empty with no compensation.
Fantastic experience: We did the intro alpine techniques course in 2022 and we absolutely loved it. The guides were knowledgeable, patient, and very friendly, and we covered quite a lot of stuff. The organisation and the comms with JG were also impeccable. We'll join some of their other courses for sure!
Hi Carolina, what a great way to end the week - thank you. We're so glad you had a fantastic time climbing the mountains around Arolla. I'll pass your thanks on to the guides, who were with you, and to people here in the office who put your trip together. We very much look forward to you joining us again in the future for you next mountain adventure. Please call me in the meantime, if you have any questions about the next best steps. Thank you once more and have a good weekend. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Excellent 2 days in Snowdonia - Introduction to Scrambling - good balance theory vs practice, two full days, secure, cheerful, just what we needed (2:1 ratio) before heading to Arolla later this year, despite the grizzly on-off weather. Alex Riley the perfect instructor. Many thanks. Peter
Excellent Peter - great news, thank you. I look forward to hearing all about your trip to the Alps in due course. I'm sure you'll have a benefit from your scrambles in Snowdonia that'll carry over to Arolla. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Have used Jagged Globe on multiple occasions, from climbing in Bolivia and Kyrgyzstan to arranging my trip to Everest this year. Very friendly, know their stuff and when it really matters on the hill, you know they’ve got solid logistics and expertise in place to help keep you safe. For those looking to do Everest next year (2023), being led by Pem Chirri is a real privilege - both his climbing CV and character rightfully earn him the title of being a “living legend”. I’ll certainly be climbing with them again.
Thank you David - it is always a pleasure to have you on any of our trips. We look forward to your next mountain adventure with us. As always, best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Many thanks to Ed for a brilliant 2 days scrambing at Tryfan, Snowdonia. Really thrilling to climb routes we wouldn't have attempted before and we learnt so many new practical mountain skills. Ed was very kind and made sure it was exactly the right level of challenge and fun. We did the Intro to Scottish Winter Mountaineering course previously and hope to do more trips in future - we would thoroughly recommend Jagged Globe!
Thanks Kathryn - that's great to know and I'll pass it onto Ed. Were very pleased you had a good time with him scrambling around Snowdonia and we look forward to you climbing with us again, soon. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Jagged Globe offer climbing courses in Wales and Scotland, my wife and I have just been to Wales and completed a Rock Climbing course, it was brilliant, they offer one climbing instructor per two people, our guide Joe was knowledgeable and made it fun. Highly recommend Jagged Globe for courses, trekking, in the UK and worldwide.
That's great to read Tink - thank you. We're really pleased you had a fun time climbing with Joe and we'll pass on your thanks to him. We look forward to you both returning to climb with us again soon. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: A fantastic ski touring and mountaineering trip with Jagged globe - no hesitation in recommending. Professional in approach but also a fun and friendly atmosphere. Pre-trip comms with Natalie in the office were excellent and really helped through turbulent COVID times. Was really glad to finally make it out to the mountains after a few false starts due to the pandemic. Daily objectives were tailored toward the groups capabilities making for challenging but achievable days in the mountains all delivered with enthusiasm and humour by guide Andy. I went away having learnt a lot and looking forward to future trips.
Thanks Stu - it was great to meet you and to ski with you during the Silvretta week. I look forward to our next meeting in the mountains! Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: I first used Jagged Globe 10 years ago for a Scottish Winter week before going to Nepal. Since then I have been back to Nepal and on several ski touring and mountaineering weeks. My dealings with Jagged Globe have always been positive. The office team are helpful and know what they are dealing with, any issues have always been sorted quickly. The in country staff have always done their very best to make the trips as good as they can possibly be. With any trip into the mountains there will always be weather issues, plans may need to be changed but with their their experience and local knowledge the guides have always been able to provide safe, fun and challenging trips. I have my next trip booked and see no reason why I will not continue to use Jagged Globe in the future. March 2019 Update to my review: Just returned from a ski touring week starting in Bivio, Switzerland. From sun and blue skies to complete white out, 50 mile an hour winds to complete calm, solid ice to 30 cm of the best powder you have ever skied we had it all. The changing weather ment a change of plans but the Jagged Globe team delt with it all seamlessly, changing a high mountain hut night to a valley hotel to avoid the worst of the gales and giving us a great days tree sking in the bargen. As usual, great guiding, the best sking available in the area and a wonderful week of excitement and fun for the clients. February 2022 Back to skiing after almost 2 years of covid. We decided that some instruction would be useful. We had been booked on the early season ski weekend in Chamonix which had been cancelled due to the French lockdown but Jagged Globe managed to rearrange the course 4 weeks later. As usual all communications from the office were well timed and helpful, I mentioned I needed some new boots and some bindings mounted , that day I got an email with an appointment for boot fitting and work on my skis. We had a brilliant 5 days, 3 days of excellent off priest tuition from Ella, an ex ski racer who was once in the top 20 in the world and so much better than anyone you would ever find in ski school!. Then 2 days trying to work on our new skils. The hotel which JG always use was just what was needed. The rooms aren't huge but the beds are comfortable, the food good and plentiful and there is always hot water for those much needed showers.. The hotel staff could not have done more to help. There is a good ski room so skies and boots are always dry and warm in the morning.. If you want a ski holiday with the best tuition, excellent back up and all the support you could need then you could do a lot worse than useJagged Globe. We have used them many times now and have our next trip booked for March.
Great news Tim - thank you. Hopefully, I'll see you in the alps this winter as I still need to perfect my kick turns!
Fantastic experience: Snow and ice climbing in Scotland Great week of mixed climbs on and around Ben Nevis and Glen Coe Despite horrendous weather conditions our guides kept us busy I learnt a lot and had fun too Very professional and experienced staff Clive ,Jamie and Joe were great fun and very accommodating Hotel was lovely too I’m sure I’ll be back to something else when I get time Thanks again all Paul H
Hi Paul - that's great to read, thank you. I'll pass on your comment to the Guides and Instructors, who will be delighted, of course, and to the hotel. With the weather these days, it's good to know we have the people who can get the best out of the conditions and you climb to the max! See you again soon, Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Can’t recommend Jagged Globe highly enough. The Introduction to Alpine Mountaineering course I did in August was brilliant, and I’ve also used the shop a lot as it’s competitively priced and has excellent kit and service. I have several more trips with them planned as they are such a good company.
Thanks Ben, that's fantastic to read. I'll pass it on to your guide Andy and the others. Meanwhile, we're looking forward to seeing you again soon in the shop and, even better, in the mountains. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Hello Natalie, I am writing to let you and anyone considering booking with yourselves that my recent course the Zermatt 4000 was second to none. All of your office staff were very patient with the world we find ourselves in and the re booking when possible. Your team on the ground, Bruce & Mike were fantastic to say the least., very very knowledgeable and helpful with anything asked of them. The hotel Aristella was very comfy, both breakfast and dinner were a real treat and not as expected for a climbing course. The owner Bernard never seemed to sleep and was always on hand with tips and very welcome advice for the valley. All in all 10 out of 10, I shall be booking something very soon with you. Keep up the great work, and of course please post this on your web site if you wish. A very content customer, Stuart Carder
Fantastic experience: Our Italian Haute Route with Jagged Globe in the first week of August was an amazing experience! First time on crampons roped up for most of the trekking on the glaciers and snow went very well. Our group of 4 plus guide all managed to climb five 4000+m mountains along the route. Staying at the Margherita Hut at the top of the Signalkuppe peak at 4500+m (the highest hut in Europe) on the border of Switzerland and Italy was another highlight. I can highly recommend this trip for any serious hikers who want to experience the high alps. Thank you Jagged Globe for making it all happen despite all the coronavirus limitations. All managed very well in the huts keeping groups apart in different rooms, masks etc as relevant.
Fantastic experience: I had the best trip! Loved every, single minute. Our guide Chris was incredible, made me feel confident and capable at every step. Thank you so much. I will definitely be back for more and i can not recommend you enough. Thank you
Fantastic experience: The week in Chamonix on the Jagged Globe off piste course was a delight. From the accommodation, small but functional, to the expert tuition and organisation the course delivered it all in abundance. Subtle drills to improve technique, video analysis that gave individual pointers to work on. This was not the same as normal ski school and meant that we all left France better off piste skiers than when we arrived. We will be returning next year for the next installment.
Fantastic experience: Just came back from the Jagged Globe Scottish Winter Mountaineering course - excellent instructors (knowledgeable, professional and patient), perfect organisation, brilliant location. Even the Scottish weather was cooperative. Learned a lot. Can't recommend highly enough!
Fantastic experience: I did the Introductory Scottish Winter Mountaineering course. Our instructor Mo made the best of very challenging weather and gave us a hugely challenging and rewarding week. We learned many new skills and learned to move on lots of different types of steep terrain. Accommodation and food at the Ballachulish Hotel was superb.
Fantastic experience: The Ski Silvretta Tour was excellent, despite some difficult weather conditions we managed to achieve most of our objectives and Andy was a brilliant guide. The accommodation was great and overall i would strongly recommend this trip for those looking to get to grips with multi day ski touring. The Silvretta region is stunning and provides a great variety of touring.
Fantastic experience: Took Part in a few trips with Jagged Globe - best in the business in my opinion - latest was Introductory Scottish Winter Mountaineering - top class all round - next stop Mera Peak Nepal !!
Fantastic experience: The winter mountaineering trip - fantastic trip and brilliant guides. Extremely patient and truly loved what they do. Make you feel a lot more comfortable. There is a great energy about everything which I feel adds to the academic element of it all.
Fantastic experience: I had fun participating in the Ice and Snow climbing trip with Jagged Globe this past week. Our guides, Clive and Matt were very professional, have great experience and knowledge of the Scottish mountains, weather, snow and ice conditions. Every morning they sat with us and presented the best climbing options for the day and let us choose the one that suited better the team. We climbed in the week between the Ciara and Dennis storms and weather was extreme with strong winds, hail, snow and rain. The guides kept us safe and entertained during a week that presented us with all the challenges the Scottish weather can provide.
Fantastic experience: The guides knew exactly what they were doing and explained information about the introduction to winter mountaineering course in detail. They were very accommodating and adapted to different levels and abilities on the course without disrupting any outcomes to learning.
Fantastic experience: Had a challenging and outstanding 6 day trip to Chamonix. 2 nights in mountain huts, the Cosmiques hut was a highlight. Hotel was close to town and served excellent food. The rooms are very traditional but with en suite bathrooms, the staff were friendly and accommodating. There were no ice routes in condition but the guides filled a week with great rock and mountaineering routes. I will do it again.
Terrific Roger, thank you. It's great to know you had a good time, and you enjoyed the hotel in Chamonix - they're always very welcoming to our climbers. We look forward to seeing you once more in the Alps. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: I had a fantastic week on the Winter Mountaineering Course in Scotland. A truly beautiful part of the world with some excellent mountaineering opportunities. Max, Patrick and Mark were all excellent guides listening to our wishes and adapting the week to this. Mark acted as our guide for the last 3 days and led us up some spectacular routes, teaching us along the way, and all with a smile and good humour. Thank you for an excellent week.
Fantastic experience: I've used Jagged Globe several times over the last couple of years for either expeditions or alpine / climbing courses in Nepal, the Alps and Scotland. They have never disappointed and would be my first choice company for mountaineering / travel. They have a very helpful and knowledgeable team and I always feel that I am in safe, experienced hands. Every time I've used JG I have come back inspired to push myself further and I would have no hesitation in recommending them.
Fantastic experience: Just returned form a great trip to Columbia. Support and leadership from the Jagged Globe team was, as usual, excellent!
Thank you Richard - glad you had a super trip with us again. We look forward to the next one. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Interesting, well run expedition to climb Tharpu Chulli. Despite the fact that, due to conditions beyond our control, we didn't quite summit, I felt that everyone enjoyed the trip and got on well with the Jagged Globe leader Simon Verspeak. Catering was excellent, views spectacular, logistics well planned and clearly explained. We were generally lucky with the weather but had to turn back very near the summit due to unstable ground conditions.
Hi Laurence,
Never easy but clearly it was the right call to turn back and I'm heartened that the leader's decision was supported by everyone. As they say, the summit will always be there for another day - we need to make sure we are too!
Thanks for your support and I hope you'll be back soon for more climbing with us.
Best wishes
Simon
Fantastic experience: JG provide a friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and well-organised service from start to finish. The Dhaulagiri Circuit trek in Nepal was brilliant, with an excellent leader and great crew. I wouldn't hesitate to travel with them again.
Thanks Fiona - that's very kind and we very much hope you'll be back for another adventure soon!
With Best Wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Just spent 3 days climbing with jagged glove guide , Alex , on a 1-1 basis. We spent some time in Sheffield and Peak District. 3 great days , enjoyed every minute and can’t wait to get out with you guys again Thanks James short
Hi James
Very glad you enjoyed you time with Alex rock climbing in the Peak District - a tremendous place and for so many mountaineers it is where it all began! I hope we can organise future climbs for you soon!
Best wishes
Simon
Fantastic experience: A well organised trip to Ecuador, good service and communication throughout. Good quality accommodation and service providers in country. I felt safe and in good hands.
Hi Matt,
It's terrific to know you had a good time in Ecuador attempting the "Big 3". I hope you'll be back for more high thrills in the Andes or the Himalaya, perhaps, in the near future.
Best wishes,
Simon
Fantastic experience: We had an amazing Mont Blanc trip with Jagged Globe. Everything was perfectly organised. Very helpful an experienced guides made our dream come true!! I would definitely recomend.
Great Sebastian - thank you. We were pleased you had excellent weather too, which sealed the deal on so many successful summits! We hope we see you back in the Alps soon!
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Excellent communication, great guides, well organised.
Thank you Martyn, - very pleased to know you had a good week of climbing in the Alps, and we look forward to your next trip with us.
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: I did the Italian Haute Route with JG in July, and it was one of the most enjoyable outings I have done with them. Like all of the regular JG guides, Jamie was brilliant and led us through a white-out expertly after a 30cm dumping of fresh snow. What a brilliant way to take a week's break from the office!
Hi David - I agree, Jamie is terrific - very steady, unflappable and reliable; the hallmarks of all the International Mountain Guides we have on our team. They're good company too, which helps! When you're ready for another break, we look forward to seeing you - whiteouts allowing!
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: I travelled with Jagged Globe to Mongolia to climb peaks in the Altai Mountains. It was a very well organised trip to a remote location completely off the beaten track. I really enjoyed the trip and thought the UK leader, local guides, accommodation and transport was excellent. It is great JG provide opportunities for guided mountaineering in remote locations like these.
Thank you Alice - that is very pleasing to read. I'll let everyone involved know; the office, your leader (Alex) and the local support team. I hope we see you on another expedition soon!
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Amazing week in Scotland, as always it was wonderfully organised and the guides were fantastic.
Thank you, Ali - and it is always a pleasure to have you join us on our courses in Scotland and the Alps. I look forward to the next one. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Professional, friendly and helpful.
Thanks Mark - it's nice to know you had a good time climbing in the Alps. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Another amazing week in the Alps climbing some of the world’s most spectacular mountains. Jamie is a wonderfully interesting and knowledgable mountain guide, not to mention his super-human climbing skills. His passion for mountaineering is infectious but also his focus on doing everything he can to enable his climbers to reach their full potential is amazing. I challenge anyone to take a trip with JG and not to want to throw in the day job and move to the mountains. I’m writing this on my commute on the London Underground... can you tell I have holiday blues?!
Hi Jenny - you know where to find us whenever the holiday blues get too much and the allure of the Alps becomes irresistible once more! See you back soon, I hope - Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Just back from climbing Mont Blanc with Jagged Globe and had the experience of a lifetime - awesome guiding, great back office organisation & support, combined with the stunning scenery of the alps. Quality adventures delivered by a top company!
Thanks Jeremy - that's very much appreciated by me and everyone involved. I'll make sure they know! It was great to see you in the Alps and to know when you reached the top of Mont Blanc and that a lifetime ambition had been fulfilled. Very glad we were part of it. I look forward to seeing you back in the mountains with us soon!
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Spent a week with Jagged Globe in Chamonix on their Alpine Techniques course during a week of extreme heat in France. As a result conditions were very challenging, however the guides successfully delivered an amazing itinerary which met all the objectives I had. I would definitely rebook with Jagged Globe, the quality of the guides they work with is second to none!
Fantastic Dan - it was great to meet you out here in the Alps, and terrific to know you had such a good time climbing with us. Yes, it was hot - although it has cooled a little today, and the week ahead seems to be more usual for the summer here! Anyway, safe climbing and I look forward to welcoming you back as soon as possible!
Best wishes, Simon
PS: you can hold me to my promise of buying you a beer!
Fantastic experience: Went to ebc with jagged globe in October and they were well organised from the off.A training day was layed on and a superb nepallese meal provided for us.one off our group became I'll and was swiftly taken care off.we had a local guide Zeden who was knowledgeable and calm and his team really looked after us...would love return one day and would rely on jagged globe to sort this for me... Steve
Hi Steve
Very many thanks for your positive review of your trip, last autumn, to Everest base camp. Just to say, the Nepalese meal was here in Sheffield to set the scene as part of our pre-trip training weekend, which we do for all expeditions (treks and climbing). Then, once in Nepal, someone was poorly and was evacuated by the leader, Zeden, in consultation with our doctors who are on-hand for all of our Nepalese trips. I'll make sure Zeden knows you had his confidence during this incident and throughout the trek.
We'd love to see you back too! So, please let me know if you have any trek in mind that you'd like to chat about?
Best wishes,
Simon
Fantastic experience: Back from my first ever Jagged Globe trip. I did the Cuillin Munros Rock Scrambling on the Isle of Skye, Scotland and it was absolutely AMAZING. From start to finish Jagged Globe has been exceptional. Any questions or queries I had were answered very quickly - mostly the same day of asking! Our guide Richard Bentley was absolutely incredible. The knowledge and passion he has for the mountains just beams from him. He's left me feeling so so inspired and ready to tackle more! I learned so much about myself on this trip - Richard even got me over my fear of scree slopes! I cannot wait to book another trip with Jagged Globe. Truly fantastic company and worth every penny! Thanks so much!
Hi Kayleigh - that's fantastic to read, thank you. We are all very pleased here about your course in Scotland and I'll make sure Richard also knows too that you had an inspiring, life-affirming time in the Cuillin. Like you, we're already looking forward to your next climb with us! Best wishes, Simon
Negative experience: Completely unaware of the legal framework under which they operate (Package Travel Regs), include illegal clauses in their "dossier" attempting to shift responsibility onto travel insurance, attempt to charge travellers for things they are entitled to under the Regs. Harass and threaten those who leave negative comments/reviews, even if those comments do not specifically mention JG (this is also illegal and should be reported to Ofcom). Great guides, atrocious management. EDIT: I'm glad to hear that procedures have changed - and I hope that the contracts issued by JG now reflect the law, and that bad weather delays no longer mean that the buck is passed to travel insurance, which is not their job, as bad weather in the mountains does not constitute, in a legal sense, unforeseen circumstances (for obvious reasons). Travel insurance is designed to cover things which package travel regulations don't - so basically nothing transport related. We were clamouring for several days that we would need heli extract to Kathmandu, and we were even promised one (some nonsense about a Russian high-capacity heli) which turned out to be a lie. Heli was only arranged after we had been delayed a day past our flight date, and so we DID actually incur costs related to connecting flights which were not booked through JG. Something JG were informed of, and yet did nothing. One of our party had to fly back to France. From a legal standpoint we are entitled to pursue litigation to recover these costs, but on balance it just wasn't worth the hassle for our short flight back to Edinburgh. Upon returning we were presented with an invoice for heli costs (despite travel regs stating that alternative transport must be found at no cost to customer), which I duly disputed - helps to have a contracts lawyer in the family! Our return dates were treated from the outset of difficulties in Lukla as entirely flexible, with one manager at JG stating that "this happens all the time" and that we should pay for a heli to "meet us half way". No, we will not meet your contractual obligations half way, and no, our travel dates are not flexible (thank you again package travel law). I truly believe that these issues were caused by inaction and negligence of the local company, and the lack of knowledge of JG staff, rather than maliciousness or desire to keep money for money's sake. I do hope that lessons have been learned and that JG are now aware of their responsibilities (and that a better local agent has been found). EDIT 2: Saying "if there was a failure" is not the same as admitting there was. Yet more dodging. JG staff in England were actually completely out of contact for much of this debacle, our guide and local rep were in touch with the local company who refused helis after flights cancelled. Nobody was rescued, which implies that a favour was done for us. We were customers who were completely let down. Dragging earthquake victims into this conversation into something entirely irrelevant, and using this review cynically as a platform for thanking people to make yourselves look good is also pretty low. I'm sure I have emails/phone numbers, but I'm not clear why I would wish to make contact... Regarding the tiny url - Feefo reviews are infamous, as only people invited to leave reviews by the company are able to so. Funnily enough I was not invited to do so.
Thank you for your feedback. I apologise - it was a disappointing end to a good trip. We have learnt from what happened - this was certainly not as anyone wished - and our procedures to deal with bad weather delays in Lukla have been changed. Please bear in mind that we did pay for everything involved, and also organised the considerably-revised logistics of your return journey. On balance, I trust that you are happy with that, as you/the group incurred no additional costs whatsoever. That seems a reasonable outcome.
Thank you for your additional comments. I've added a picture of an MI-17 taking off from Syangboche, just above Namche Bazaar to the photos section (I flew in it back to Kathmandu). It’s true, such big helicopters no longer fly in the Khumbu but to believe they still do was just a mistake and nothing more.
We’ve walked hand-in-hand with our Nepalese staff for twenty years, through storms, avalanches and earthquakes, learning and improving as we go. During the earthquake, for example, they worked tirelessly for over a week till all 100 of our people had been evacuated safely. They reached out and hauled them back from all four corners of the country, despite their own families being homeless among the rubble of the city. On behalf of all those rescued, and others, we repay them with our loyalty, thanks and respect.
On this occasion, if there was a failure of timely decision-making (i.e. leadership) when bad weather stopped your flight from leaving Lukla, the buck stops with me, not with our friends in Nepal. If you want to add anything further, you have my email address and my mobile telephone number.

Fantastic experience: Very well organised and an amazing trip to the Silvretta for a week of ski touring in some fantastic conditions. The guide, Andy, was a fountain of knowledge and even on the less good weather days we got out and had some great skiing. Will be back next year hopefully on the Stubai trip.
Hi Richard - thank you for your comments and feedback - Andy will be pleased too. Yes, it would be great to see you next year in the Stubai so I'll look forward to that as will Andy. Meanwhile best wishes, Simon - aka le chauffeur :)
Fantastic experience: I have just completed the Silvretta with jagged globe. The whole trip was exhilarating. Amazing scenery super huts with friendly staff and excellent cuisine. Another plus side to the trip is that jagged globe will provide all ski extras such as harnesses boot crampons ice axes etc free of charge, unlike many of its rivals. The whole staff ranging from the clerical side to the tour guides are extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. I can certainly recommend skiing with jagged globe. This is my second trip with them and plan to do many more.
Hi Sarah - thanks for the great review. I'll show it to everyone involved so they know their work is valued and appreciated. It's true about the gear, and we buy the stuff we would want for ourselves, so the best for ski touring, being light as well as functional. I hope you come along next year with your sis to use it again! Very nice to have met you both in Austria - please let me know if you have any questions about next year's tours.
Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: The Polar Training week was an excellent introduction to the rigours of cross country skiing and camping. Almost essential preparation for any serious polar trip. The leader, Helen is outstanding.
Thanks Roger, I'm very pleased you had a rewarding time with Helen. I'll make sure she knows. We look forward to you joining us again soon. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: We have just returned from another excellent trip with Jagged Globe. This year we did the Silvretta Ski Tour which we would thoroughly recommend. Caroline (our guide) was very knowledgeable and so much fun which made the holiday complete. Couldn't recommend this company highly enough! Definitely another trip on the cards for next year!
Hi Sue
Thanks for you kind words about your ski trip to Silvretta. It was a delight to meet you and Sarah in the Tyrol and especially to find out there are ski tourers living so near to home. I hope you make it next year to Val Maira as I know Caroline would be keen to go with you both again.
Take care, Simon
Fantastic experience: Really great course. Superb instruction and really well run to ensure that everyone got what they wanted out of that course.

Fantastic experience: An excellent few days ice climbing with Jagged Globe in Cogne Itlay. Well organised by a responsive, knowledgeable & friendly office. The guide Andy Owens is at the top of his game. Safe decision making whilst ensuring maximum challenge & climbing with impactful coaching en-route. A brilliant and fun trip- thank you:)
As always, great to have you climbing with us David, and nice to read your helpful feedback, which I'll pass on here and to Andy in the alps, best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Great company, very professional and you always get the highest quality of whatever is available on the mountain. Elbrus (2018) and Aconcagua (2019)
Hi Damian. We have always tried to be the best at what we do, and are rewarded, thankfully, by like-minded, appreciative people joining our trips. So, we're grateful for your support and look forward to your next big summit with us. best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Amazing week with Jagged Globe on the introduction to Scottish Winter Mountaineering course. Very competent and professional instructors/guides, very clear and patient, but also very fun. Really helpful information/teaching about safety in winter conditions, assessing avalanche risk, navigating in poor visibility, and appropriate use of equipment such as ice axes, crampons, and ropes. Would definitely recommend this course, and would consider further trips with Jagged Globe.
That's terrific to read - I'll make sure all your instructors and guides see it too - as it motivates them to know they're doing a great job and their efforts are valued so highly. I hope we see you in the mountains in the near future, so please let me know if you have any questions about other expeditions or courses. With best wishes, Simon Lowe
Fantastic experience: I undertook the Introductory Scottish winter mountaineering course with Jagged Globe. It was a fantastic experience form start to finish. The course was very well run with expert guides and all participants were well looked after. I would thoroughly recommend
Thanks Edward - glad to know you had a great week in Scotland. I'll make sure the instructors there know you enjoyed their guiding expertise - they'll appreciate that. I hope we see you again soon, in Scotland or elsewhere in the mountains. Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Love Jagged Globe - over the last few years I've been on tours to the Alps, Argentina, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan and Scotland. Every trip has been excellent. Five stars from me.
Hi Jessica - that's great feedback, thank you. It will make everyone involved in the expeditions you've done with us very happy, of course. It encourages all of us to continue to strive for the very best for you in the future too! Best wishes, Simon
Fantastic experience: Excellent operator with a well-deserved reputation for safe and well-organised expeditions, courses and trips to the mountains of the world. I have travelled with other companies before, and changed to Jagged Globe on a recommendation from a friend. I have never regretted this choice. Most of all the guides and instructors employed are the best I have encountered anywhere.
Hi Jo,
Many thanks for your review. It's always a pleasure to have you on our climbing expeditions. I'll pass this on to the team here in Sheffield and those you have travelled with to the Alps and Himalaya - they'll be delighted to read it, of course! I hope we'll see you in the mountains again soon, Best wises, Simon
Fantastic experience: Jagged Globe never fails to deliver.Competent admin office supported with experienced leaders and knowledgeable local guiding teams. Interesting and challenging venues with excellent no cost cutting travel and accommodation.
Thanks Dewi, we try to deliver the best service before the mountain, during and afterwards - it's a high bar, so it's great know we've passed it each time you've climbed with us. Fortunately, I have a team here and in the mountains, dedicated to the task because they enjoy the mountains themselves! See you again soon and best wishes, Simon
