Positive experience: The tour was okay overall, but not quite what we expected based on all the glowing 5-star reviews. Josh, our guide, was great guide, energetic and put a lot of effort into his storytelling, but for our family traveling with kids, the humor and stories just didn’t land. The tour covers a few landmarks and ends at The Shambles (a charming street often linked to Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley), but many of the stops felt underwhelming—like random corners near York Minster or a quick pass by the Treasurer’s House. If you’re into ghost stories or enjoy a theatrical storytelling style, this might be more your thing. For us, it didn’t hold the kids’ attention and wasn’t particularly spooky or engaging for a family audience. Perhaps this tour works better for couples or those really into ghost tales, but for families, it’s not the most entertaining option Overall Josh gets a 5 stars, but for our family, the tour itself was passable .

We learnt so such about places that we had gone by during the day that it made the city feel brand new. Very informative with a great element of humour

Fantastic experience: The ghost tour was amazing, everyone showed up on time, Josh (tour guide) made sure everyone had arrived before we set off and made sure we were all safe. He was full of knowledge and was extremely engaging, made loads of jokes and was very witty. You will want to buy tickets in advance, it is a thing that you have to book and loads of people attend. Thank you so much, we really enjoyed the night!

Fantastic experience: If you're worried about group size - don't be, the guide (Luke) was very loud and clear and made sure to get to know people in the group. The stories were clear, well told and the guide adapted the stories to points people in the group were interested in. Some of the stories are very gruesome or sad (and involve children) so good to be aware if you are squeamish!

Fantastic experience: 10/10 experience! Our tour guide, Luke, did an amazing job telling and showing us around York, sharing ghost stories and some crazy history about the city from the black plague, etc. Great fun and definitely spooky on a night with a full moon Would recommend to anyone coming to York, especially around Halloween! Also managed to book day of which I was very pleased by!

Fantastic experience: Hi myself and daughter came tonight from Goole id looked at leaving a review but can't see how if you can post this it would be great Tonight we had Dan and even after a personally hard day he kind and did amazing he was so knowledgeable and took time for everyone even though it started rocky with some trouble causing youths he asked them to leave us alone and explained to them the group had paid to which they eventually left us to carry on he also may I add brought everyone of the stories to life with his theatrics a credit to the team and my daughter with autism rarely gets excited about much but even herself was so happy and asking when we can go back again which will be soon so thank you all especially Dan a true gent

He was an incredible storyteller, and had a brilliant, booming voice. (Ideally suited for this kind of event). Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed our tour last week with Dan. Dan was a funny, articulate and captivating guide who told the stories with great effect. The stories themselves were engaging and a great cross-section of York's spooky history. Dan also had excellent timing in escorting us under the market awnings in the Shambles just prior to a sudden hailstorm...not sure he planned it that way, but we'll take it :) Highly recommend the experience.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic tour by Josh, I loved hearing more of the historical side of York and learning one or two more ghosts (we heard about alot of ghosts but i am a bit of a fanatic). Josh was fascinating and very entertaining even on the walk to the stops. I would say this is one of the best ghost walks in York. Would definitely recommend to groups of all sizes, I was solo and didn't feel awkward at all. I booked in advance but you can join the tour and pay at the start.

Fantastic experience: A fantastic tour, Dan was so funny and really had us spooked. I learnt a lot about the history of York, and also went through places such as whip-ma-whop-ma-gate and the Golden Fleece pub which we hadn't seen yet. I can't recommend this tour enough, really fun evening! Only drawback is I had a bit of trouble getting to sleep the next couple of nights...

Fantastic experience: I would give 6 stars if it was possible. My husband and I had never done a ”ghost tour” before so we didn’t know what to expect, but we were in good hands with Dan, who kept us entertained with a great mix of history, horror, and humour. You can tell he is so passionate about what he does. It is also really nice to be walking around after the streets are quieter, and see things with a new perspective without the tourists.

Fantastic experience: Attended this tour the evening of 20/03/24. Experience was amazing, Dan was humorous and informative about the creepy tales and locations of York. There are many tours available in York, this is the one I'd recommend. I'll forgive him for the strange laws of York that previously affected us Scots. I just hope that poor Dan finally manages to find the power to phase through that wall, it's not doing his poor head any good....

This was my 4th ghost tour of York but is by far my favourite of the four and I will be sure to take it again next time I'm in town.

He was theatrical throughout and adapted to the people of York , making sure everyone was safe and comfortable . It’s very hard to entertain people from different areas and dynamics, never mind children that are impatient, send drunken street people yet encompassing the history and stories we were all there for , but I can honestly say we were so entertained , full of amazing history and ghostly stories and also very safe . Thankyou for this . I feel this tour is definately underpriced and maybe people book it as it’s cheaper than most ghost walks in York ,I hate saying this as a single parent and obviously myself looking for a cheaper option However I really hope the customers review and show how fantastic he is and very caring and empathic . She made sure everybody felt comfortable and made the time to speak to everybody. She even she even stayed behind to discuss other related topics and to walked me back to where I was staying.

The tour was jam packed full of fascinating history which as York residents we didn't even know, I honestly can't recommend it enough, fun was had by all ages in our group, a fantastic way to start a Saturday evening x
