Fantastic experience: Good prices, great service

Fantastic experience: Used these guys twice now. Great friendly drivers on both occasions and trustworthy company. Decent prices and so easy to book on their app and you can track the driver when they are due. Peace of mind that you have your drivers name and know what car will be arriving for safety.

Negative experience: Booked this taxi service as it was recommended for a wedding. DO NOT USE. 20minutes late despite booking it a week in advance and ‘not my fault’ attitude when they turned up. No communication why they were late even when we tried to ring multiple times.

Negative experience: I would have to give five stars for the journey to the airport but only one star for the return journey!!! They have had £300 for a return fare and I even GAVE, AS REQUESTED BY THEM MY RETURN FLIGHT NUMBER so they could have checked that the flight was on time, I landed on time and at pick up point early, but no cab to be seen, when I chased to see where they were I was told they had my flight landing time at the time I booked the pick up for...REALLY??? Tired and could have got a cab immediately from the terminal for the same price. I would NOT recommend a return booking, very unprofessional and not good!!! When I pay this amount of money I expect better service, I could have got an Uber £30 cheaper and immediately…lesson learned!!! I’m sorry but for that sort of money I expect better service.

Fantastic experience: I booked several cabs with Getaway Cars for a company conference. The service was always punctual and friendly and the prices we were quoted were accurate. They also coped very well with changes to our planned schedule. I would use this company again next time I am in York.

Fantastic experience: Fifteen of us required several taxis between our hotels and city centre whilst in York for a stag weekend and Getaway Cars were extremely helpful in organising these. The minibus driver we had was a laugh which helped to get everybody into the party spirit before our night out. Would recommend Getaway and call them again on next visit to York.

Fantastic experience: I just wanted to say thank you to Getaway cars. I was in York this morning and had a bad fall while crossing the road. Someone rang for a taxi for me to take me to the hospital and he arrived in minutes. He was extremely concerned, helping me in and out of the car. I managed to get home without further incident and am now sitting nursing my scars! Thank you.

Fantastic experience: I visited York with my family. We needed to hire a car to take us to Gatwick airport. I contacted several cab companies. Getaway Cars provided the best quote and they were the most responsive. I didn't have a UK phone so all communications were done via email. Each time I sent an email, I received a response within an hour, even at 5am! Even though I had to cancel the car at the last minute, they were very understanding. I am thoroughly impressed with their responsiveness and professionalism. I wish more companies provided this level of service! Highly recommended!!

Negative experience: Would have given 0 stars if I could. Booked a taxi for a trip to the theatre. Got a message saying it was on it’s way. 10 minutes later another message saying it was 2 minutes away, then 5 mins later another message saying it was 1 minute away. We then tried calling them but no answer. Then at 18.55, bearing in mind the taxi was booked for 18.30, they called us to say the taxi had broken down and they couldn’t send another. Evening ruined as the play started at 19.30 and no way of getting there. Will never use again.

Fantastic experience: Booked this taxi for races so needed an 8 seater,I booked it about month in advance, i was sent a text to confirm booking, time, date etc, which was really good. On the day i recieved a text to say the taxi was on its way & another to say it was arriving at our address, which was 10mins early. The driver, Ian, was very nice & polite.Would recommend these guys, brilliant service.Thank you.

Negative experience: Booked a car well in advance, making very clear that the trip was for the bride and groom at the end of their wedding day to ferry them to their hotel. The car waited for 10 minutes and then left and we were told bluntly that no other car would come. I appreciate that the taxi couldn't wait forever, but we were trying to say goodbye to our 100+ guests and were outside only seconds after the car left. I would have thought that the driver might understand that on such big days things can often overrun slightly, but apparently not.

Fantastic experience: Ian Surgenor, you are a STAR. A couple of days ago, I ordered a taxi to take me to the hospital. I was very poorly, anxious and completely exhausted from weeks of sickness, which is why taking a taxi and sitting next to a stranger for 10-15 minutes was not exactly on the top of my wish list. And then Ian showed up. With his down-to-earth personality, amazing laughter, compassion and understanding, he managed to calm me down (something no one had been able to do for weeks), and to be honest I forgot for a brief moment why I even had to go to the hospital when we finally arrived. If you see this, Ian, thank you a million times. It might not seem like a big deal, but to me it meant the world. If only there were more people like you out there. Fantastic experience: Brilliant! Got a taxi today from Sainsburys after only waiting 10 minutes! Six other can companies wait times were between 1-2 hours! Driver was top notch too! Keep it going guys!

Negative experience: Booked for transport back after my daughter's wedding but failed to arrive. Over 30 minutes late left waiting in the cold in th ine the middle of the countryside. Rang to find out what was happening and initially told would be a couple of minutes away but still failed to turn up 15 mins later rang again controller on phone very rude and unprofessional. Driver was very polite and for that reason have 2 stars not one. Would never recommend or use again.

Positive experience: Good service, However I would pre book well in advance if you want a taxi as there is a shortage of drivers right across the board in the york area which to be fair isn't the companies fault.

Negative experience: What exactly can they get away from? You would still be waiting for your taxi after the police had made a full investigation. Ordered a taxi with an hours advance notice in the middle of the day, still waiting 20 minutes after the agreed time to be told ‘your drivers not far away’….another 10 minutes go by and still no driver. Got an Uber instead.

Negative experience: Taxi Came late about 15 min although i booked the day before and when i called the company,an unresponsible person answered the phone and said that it's weekend day and the taxi is late because of traffic. So if they know it is a weekend day, they should come earlier for the same reason. Even the driver did not apologise when he has lastly arrived ! Poor customer service especially over the phone. And the application is insane, many times it says it is fully booked although if you call the company a min after you will get booked!

Fantastic experience: Very happy with Getaway cars, it was roasting today and feared I would have had to walk my journey back with my shopping for a person i Support.

Positive experience: Took me a few longer ways back stopped for every single car to let them past at 1 in the morning .....9 pounds from the groves to tang hall when I normally pay 6-7 pounds from tang hall to the mount near the knavsmire in the middle of the day...I know your trying to earn a living but don't take it out on the guy that's just finished a 38 hour shift in care it's really sad to see people drag out the trip to earn a few extra quid ... I would of mentioned it in the car but I was way to exhausted .

The service we received was courteous, friendly and very efficient from my first enquiry to my son's arrival at his care home. I have no doubt that my son will use this firm again. Well done to all concerned.

Fantastic experience: Left my phone in the cab, called the office and they were very helpful in tracking down the driver, and the driver (I'm really sorry that I didn't catch his name) drove all the way back to drop off the phone, even though I was his last fare for the night! Lovely!
