Speed out to the site Aboard our 12m ultra stable 1300HP Catapult fast catamaran the famous Brighton Diver 4, you will experience a panoramic view of England’s “South Coast Riviera” as you cruise 9 nautical miles in each direction.
Get up close and personal with the gigantic turbines standing 150m high and the jack up ships, whose hulls rise out of the water as they assemble each of the 116 windmills, till completion of Europe’s largest windmill farm in late fall 2017.
Enjoy the sea breeze as you float in between the enormous yet elegant windmills, and marvel at the epic scale of this landmark industrial project, as Skipper Paul gives a running commentary and your burning questions answered.
With an installed capacity of 400 megawatts (MW), it will generate 1,400 gigawatt hours (GWh) of green power each year, equal to the amount used annually by around 350,000 UK homes1, or almost half the houses in Sussex. It will reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 600,000 tonnes a year.
The wind farm site covers 70 square kilometres, so it is larger than the island of Guernsey, and is located in the English Channel between 13 and 20 kilometres off the Sussex coast.
When completed in 2018, it created around 60 full-time permanent jobs. Rampion will be operated and maintained from a purpose-built base at Newhaven Port, and is already acting as a catalyst for the regeneration of the port area.
Rampion features 116 MHI Vestas 3.45 MW turbines. The turbines are made up of an 80 metre (m) tall tower, a nacelle for the generation equipment, a hub, and three 55m long blades. When vertical, the tip of the turbine blade reaches 140m, which is just taller than the Brighton i360’s viewing pod at its top height.
The turbines sit on top of foundations, comprising single steel monopiles and bright yellow transition pieces, designed so they integrate together perfectly. There are 12 rows of 10 to 12 turbines that are connected by array cables taking the power to a single offshore substation. A total of 140 kilometres of array cables are buried in a network under the seabed. Laid end to end, the array cables would stretch from Brighton to London and back.
Electricity will be transmitted from the offshore substation along two 16km subsea export cables, which come to shore at the beach, next to Brooklands Pleasure Park in East Worthing.

The Rampion name was entered into a schools’ naming competition by Davison High School for Girls, and went on to win the public vote. The logo is a stylised version of the Rampion flower, the county flower of Sussex (below), and uses blue and purple hues in its colour.
From landfall, 27km of buried onshore cables will transport the power to a new onshore substation in Twineham, Mid Sussex. The cables have been installed in ducts laid in trenches that were backfilled prior to the cables being pulled through. A technique called horizontal directional drilling was used at four landmarks along the route – under the A27, the River Adur, railway line and, the A259 and Lancing Beach. By drilling under each of these, traffic and trains were not interrupted, the beach could remain open and environmental impact to the River Adur was minimised.
Construction of the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm began in 2015 and is due to be fully operational in 2018, with the final completion date being largely dependent on logistics and weather during the construction period. Reinstatement of the onshore cable route will be monitored for 10 years and the wind farm itself will have a lifespan of 20 to 25 years.

Negative experience: Nor of these companies answer the phone. Try and see
Dick
Negative experience: Wish I could rate 0 stars, never received the service. Paid a large sum of money for the dates to attend and the tour was cancelled, twice! Spoke with Paul Dyer on the phone who was not only unhelpful but very rude and stated that he needed more money to do the trip even though it did not go ahead due to cancellations on his behalf. Very uncooperative throughout contact and poor communication. Do not book with them, it is also not the cheapest service doing this trip!
You purchased the voucher 2021 and told before paid they are valid for a year, cancelled once due to bad weather. May 2023 advised her we have been doing trips all year.but customer was too busy!, I offered to renew the vouchers for 50% discount and when I was not interested I having a argument with her on the phone =I am not helpful and she takes revenge via social media the same as most people who are unwilling to except the problem is of there own making . Please note the vouchers have valid date and are not refundable, if you do not think you are able to use them in time just book a date and do deposit which is refundable if that trip is cancelled due to the weather .
Fantastic experience: Great trip out
Thanks Simon,
Fantastic experience: Excellent place for family
Thanks Harish
Fantastic experience: My husband & I took my Dad on the wind farm boat trip a couple of months ago on a beautiful sunny day. Whether you're visiting Brighton, or are a local, I recommend booking up!

Fantastic experience: Moved to Hove last year and always thought the wind farm was majestic. A visit from my friend from LA prompted us to take the trip to show him the highlights of the south coast. The trip didn’t disappoint, with a perfect autumn sunny day. Paul was great at arranging a change in the time to suit the weather better. Would highly recommend this trip.
Thanks Neil glad you enjoyed,
Fantastic experience: The Windfarm Tour was the reason for our visit to Brighton and it didn’t disappoint. The boat (Brighton Diver IV) was great - impressive piece of kit!! Paul was very knowledgable, so once we got out there, he was literally the font of all windfarm related knowledge and lots of quite surprising facts which all added to the trip. It was very interesting and very cool to get up close to the massive wind turbines!! I’d highly recommend this curve-ball of an afternoon out at sea… thanks Paul.
Thanks Chris "Curve ball of afternoon " must use that

Thank you Richard

Hi Thomas i am sure you did not do the trip with my company as i spend 40 minuets telling our guests all about the wind-farm and how it was built and i have no record of your name. There is another company who do the tours with no commentary just give you sheet of paper "Ross Boats" please check and edit you review or feel free to call me 07901822375 Paul.

Fantastic experience: This was a great experience and it was nice to experience the feeling of freedom that sailing gives you during this restrictive time! The boat was very clean, we all had plenty of space and appropriate covid measures have been put in place.
Thank you and glad you enjoyed the trip.
Fantastic experience: Positive: Professionalism , Quality , Responsiveness
Fantastic experience: We took a group of our electrical students from Chichester College on a trip to see the wind farm courtesy of Paul and Brighton Diver. Passing close to the turbines truly brings home their scale and that of the entire installation. Paul gives a commentary during the course of the tour that provides much detailed information about the whole wind farm project, from its construction and the turbines themselves, to the distribution route connecting it to the national grid. A very worthwhile trip, whether for pleasure or education.
Thanks Will glad you enjoyed nice group of lads.
Fantastic experience: A brilliant trip, the wind farm is fascinating and Paul was a great guide - friendly, knowledgeable and interesting. The boat was comfortable and fast. Highly recommend!
Thanks Jennie very nice group
Fantastic experience: A great way to spend half a day, Paul was great
Thanks Sean,
Fantastic experience: Paul was friendly and helpful when I called to book, and has a very sensible system of having clients call the day before to check that conditions are suitable for sailing. I also received a very helpful email confirming my booking and providing directions and useful information about the trip. As for the actual tour - it was wonderful! A fast, comfortable ride out to the wind farm, and then we spend a good amount of time moving slowly amongst the turbines for a close-up look, while Paul provided us with a wealth of interesting and amusing facts about the planning, construction, and day-to-day running of the enterprise. It is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. After that we headed back via a gentle excursion along the Brighton & Hove coastline, passing both the piers. Well worth the price, and thoroughly recommended! Thanks, Paul!!
thanks Abi very kind.
Fantastic experience: Really nice tour, Paul was very friendly and had lots of interesting facts about how they built it and maintain it, I honestly thought we would just go around the farm but we literally were at touching distance from one the structures, really impressive. Recommended.
Thank you Herbert
